Generally before golf I'll get up, have a shower and get dressed (my trousers are 34" waist\36" leg in case you're wondering). I'll pour some milk from the 2 pint bottle in the fridge on my cornflakes. Jump in my car and drive the 7 miles to the course, making sure not to break the 30mph speed limit. After the round I'll have a pint and maybe I'll order a 10oz steak and chips...

Sounds like you are a new age golfer influenced under the Tiger effect (i.e. your waistline is smaller than your trouser leg).
I personally prefer to get some weight behind the ball (because I am a short arse).

We live in a country that thinks about vehicle economics in terms of miles per gallon, but sells fuel in litres...

The reason why petrol is sold in litres, is because the old fasioned pumps couldn't cope with the price per gallon. Besides if you now saw petrol prices displayed as £6.36/gallon rather than £1.40/litre, there would be riots!

I think you'll find a "me" is an imperial measurement, the metric equivalent being an "I"

Just add 10% to the metric distance and you have your yards to as near as is necessary

Why is it that the sport of golf still uses the Imperial System of units (yards) to calculate measurements? Metrication was brought in around 40 years ago and is obviously the method taught in schools, so for any youngsters coming into the game it must be difficult to convert to thinking in yards rather than metres.

Is it just another example of golf and it's establishments remaining in the 'traditional ways' whilst also wondering why there are a lack of younger players starting up?

Yes I know if would take a lot of time, effort and cash to make the change, but surely it's about time the sport was brought up to date and converted to metric?

One of my pet hates is when Imperial and Metric get mixed up..

You can't have 1.5 miles - it's 1 1/2.....

You can't have 4 1/2 KM - it's 4.5.....

This is the correct response.

If you're under 6 foot there is a fair chance your relaxed walking stride is approx. 1 yd. If your over 6 foot you'll stride closer to a metre.

I'm 5'10 and I walk to a pretty accurate yd/stride.

This is the sort of empirical buff us old blokes know pre gps/range finders.....

Go into a builders merchant and you will see and hear many people asking for 3.2 mtr of 2(b)1.

I myself use inches..feet..yards..pints..gallons..lbs & Oz's and in the back of my mind I often work out things into old money.
