GoKart Electric Trolley

My motocaddy DHC is much heavier than the Gokart.

Late into this but good to see there are a good number of GoKart fans on here. I have a Mk.1 GoKart which I've owned for more years than I remember. I first read about them on the old GolfMagic forum and bought mine in the 1st or 2nd year of production so that would make it 14 or 15 years old. I've had it serviced 2-3 times in that period but its still going strong. I changed out the old lead/acid battery for Lithium when the original died. As it was one of the early ones there were a couple of teething problems but GoKart solved them in a flash. A lot of the replacements were sent FOC.
  • Mud flap came broke - replaced FOC
  • Bearing failed - replaced FOC
  • Bottom bungee failed - replaced FOC
  • Scorecard cover broke - replaced FOC (I never use it anyway, I always put my scorecard in my pocket).
However, that was over 10 years ago and nothing has gone wrong since. I have to admit it is a bit "Triggers Broom" as when it is serviced they replace some of the components as part of the service.
People ask if it is fragile because its plastic. Erm, no. This thing is robust. It even fell into one of our burns after I forgot to switch it off and continued to run afterwards (and on its side in the burn as well). And it won't rust.
Our course is very hilly but you learn where to park it and where not to. Side hills can be more of an issue but you learn to handle that as well. It's not a critical thing.
I've looked at the Mk.2, and my good lady has offered to get me one, but whilst I agree the Mk.2 is an improvement on the Mk.1, I can't see any reason why I would want to replace anything that just continues to work?
It's the on/off switch and roller rather than the "auto" control. I could have had it upgraded in a service but I like the simplicity of the switch and roller, and its intuitive to use.
And that is another reason why I like the GoKart. It's simple and easy to use. No whistles and bells to go wrong. I can have it out of the car, out of the bag and ready to go in less than a minute. Putting it back in the bag after the round is a bit more of a faff but all in all, I have no intention to change unless it falls apart or blows up. At the moment it looks like doing neither.

What do you do to manage the side hills?
 
I have the MK1 automatic. I don't use it but the scorecard from my club fits in it as I tested it on Sunday. Agree with Robster that getting the Go Kart in the bag can be a faff but my trolley stays at the club 99% of the time.
 
Even though the weights are similar I wonder if the GoKart is more manageable because, when folded, it stands upright with the handle on top so it can be picked up one-handed and swung into the boot of the car.
I see folks with other motor trolleys having to crouch down to pick them up two handed, like picking up a crate.

I walk in a way that takes me to the least angle. Mine is the Mk.1 and the battery placement on the Mk.2 is lower so that, I imagine, would help. Our course tends to be more up and down slopes with sideways being more off the fairway.
I see they also now offer downhill braking as an option. All adds to the price going up but you pay your money and you take your choice.

I'm always a lot faster getting my GoKart up and down than other members I see with other brands. It really is very easy.
 
Always found sitting the battery on the mk 1 a bit hit and miss, especially as it hold the trolley in place.
Is this any better on the mk 2 ?

Not a problem at all. It clicks out; it clicks in. It's not integral to the structure. Never seen a Mk1 so can't even understand how that would work.
 
I've got the new MK 2.....battery slips in and out easy as heck.

As another side note......and I'm not really complaining because I just didn't think about it......but last year I bought heated mitts with a battery and I liked it. I can't attach them to the GK handle.....poop. I might actually cut off a broom handle or something similar and tape it to the handle so I can slide the straps onto something. It'll be ugly, but that doesn't bother me.

CT6 has a carry handle at the top.

Cheers mate. I'm assuming if you were ever to replace your mk1 you'd then go for the downhill braking auto model?

I was thinking about this when I looked at the GoKart page and, tbh, I'm still not convinced I need it. We have some steep slopes, particularly the path from our 9th tee, but I've never walked anywhere on the course and thought that I need help in controlling the speed. I guess I would have to use one to compare the two to make a more measured decision.
 
Just another example of GoKart customer service. At the weekend, I broke the latch that locks my handle in place. Totally my fault, I was pleasantly surprised at how thick the plastic catch was.
I took some photos and sent an email to GoKart. They rang me this morning to say that they hadn't received the photos so I sent them over again.
They called me straight back, advised it was easy to replace, explained how to do it, took my order on the phone and are posting the item today. Price £9.60.
Now that is what I call service.

Thanks robster, the more I read the views and feedback on this thread the more I'm convinced to plump for one.
 
On my point above, is there other advantages that the auto has over the manual speed adjustment?
I had a cheap upgrade to the auto a long time ago when I had a service and I've never regretted it.

Once you get used to it you just set off and it is part of the way you walk - no need to mess around with the speed control anymore - it just adjusts to your input on the handle.

In fairness, having one might have prevented me damaging my trolley, as I think I may have turned the roller too far and it set off like a rocket!
