Right lads, I'm going to the open for the first time next Weds. It has been 20 odd years since I've been to a pro event. Any tips for having an enjoyable day? I really want to get the most out of it.

go to the practice range, you will get benefit from it.
Ideally go last practice day, take a packed lunch, use golf shoes, take a brolley, either follow a group or park yourself at a hole/green/tee crossroads and watch them all file past you, be patient, and most of us shout mashed potato after EVERY putt:whistle:

I'm going Friday. That way I get to see one of my favourites even if he's not going to make the cut. Do the range a bit, and the putting green. Then pick up several groups for a few holes, ultimately coming all the way in with my group of choice.

A couple of beers and a pie, then back out for a repeat in the afternoon.

Small backpack for waterproofs, Mars bar and a bottle of water. I don't bother with a brolley - too many people to dodge if you put it up.

Enjoy yourself Wayne, might see you there.
