It should shortcut the duff advice most of us give so that the user can get a guranteed fix.

Shouldn't this post be moved to "Website Feeback"??

I don't agree, it's a forum and generally they are full of bad advice (dotted with some useful bits)... and why go see a pro if they're going to teach you to fade with a square clubface?

I don't agree, I've had some exelent advice from the BMW forum that I go on about fixing my car. OK it's not always correct but the bits that are have saved me ££££££.

I disagree to some extent. Yes pros are important and they get increasingly more important as you get lower on your handicap.

But I've had probably no more than 5 lessons with a pro , the rest I learn from reading books , forums, watching vids, etc.

What would you say to someone that cant afford lessons?

Guaranteed fix? What guarantee?

I have met a lot of golfers who have had lots of lessons and are still crap. I've never heard of any getting their money back. It seems to me if people take lessons and improve it is down to the pro. If they don't improve it is because they didn't practice enough or don't have enough 'natural' ability.

Pros seem to take all the credit for success and no blame for failure.........nice work if you can get it.

Perhaps your opinion that people should see a pro is just more duff advice?

I've never had a golf lesson except for the 1/2 hour lesson i got free when i joined my first club about 8-9 years ago.I simply cannot justify the cost and/or time required for lessons/practice,when its nothing more than a hobby.

Must have a fair bit of natural ability then to have a handicap with no lessons. I know a lot of low handicappers and the amount of tuition and practice they have is unreal so hats off to you. However for most of us wanting to improve to your level with no lessons is near enough impossibel. I have had lots of tuition to get to where I am.

I don't believe i have any natural ability,i simply play by numbers and percentages,i know roughly how far i hit each club and what sort of shape shot i hit most often,i also take my medicine when i'm in trouble and try not to play "silly" shots.
I try and play as often as i can when time allows, but never practice other than 15 minutes chipping and putting before teeing off in comps,or the odd session on the range.

How did you get to the standard where you know all your distances and to get your swing repeatble enough to do this. Not being funny just curious as I personally do not know of anyone with a handicap as low as yours that has not had loads of tuition and range time and that does as little practice as you do. I do between 2-4 hours a week practice and have a lesson every 4-6 weeks. So if you can give me some hints I might be able to save a fortune;)

I could have written this, apart from the odd session at the range which I never do!

Sorry I'm firmly in the lesson camp. The guy I'm with now is a revelation and in one 30 minute lesson to date has improved the quality of the ball strike immensly. The real work starts on Thursday as we move forward to try and iron out the destructive flaws that have been ingrained over the last 30 years. Do I think all pros are good. No. The last guy I went to was very technical and although I understood exactly what he wanted me to doa nd why we were making changes I thought I was stagnating and couldn't see any improvement hence the move to a fresh pair of eyes.

As for the advice on here, I can say that without doubt, the likes of Jason Dranfield, Bob and James have not only helped me with simple but effective pointers at real low moments but have provided the same to a lot of others. I'll always listen to advice especially from good golfers. Whether I choose to act on that or interpret what they are saying as beneficial is the difference
