GMACMBE

Isn't it time the EMPIRE bit of these honours was dropped, not only is it offensive to many from former colonies resulting in their refusal or return but shouldn't these be honours of the British PEOPLE, not the upper class clique who seem to dominate them??

Despite my support for moonheid to get a knighthood I really do think it is a pile of pish....who cares really?

It is though, I would imagine, nice for the folk to receive these 'awards' and get's them a nice day at the palace, not something I would ever thank you for but no doubt lovely for those who like that sort of thing.

My next door neighbour has been awarded an MBE today for services to the drink industry, nice party tonight for them no doubt after that..I may qualify for one after tomorrows shennanigans are done!! ;)

As much admiration as I have for what Gmac has achieved this year I really do feel this award is a bit of a joke for someone so young & has only had 1 year of major success. I'm sure there are far more deserving people who we've never heard of for awards of this kind. Regarding Brucie, he's probably not helping himself when he seems to discuss not having a knighthood every time he's on TV. He's been a good entertainer but does that really deserve a knighthood....having said that if they can give the likes of Parky one they must be running out of options.

Everything GMac did this season was for him, wasn't it??

The tour events, the major and, to a certain degree, the Ryder Cup.

So, he does his job, wins stuff that he's always wanted to win and gets an MBE.

Hmmmm....

I've got two children. When my Wife was pregnant with our daughter, there were issues. We were lucky enough to be referred to see this man:

Dr Kypros Nicolaides

Google him.

His work in foetal studies is unbelievable - life saving even.

No MBE for him.

He even sacrificed his marriage in the pursuit of his studies of the foetus.

I think the knighthood/MBE scheme is rubbish.

I won't mention the doctors and nurses who saved my Son's life when he was three days old!!!

Well done GMac but I think there are far more worthy recipients.

First I've heard about it.

Indeed, well deserved, he's put Northern Ireland on the map for sure.
Just wonder how many Americans knew he was Northern Irish or knew where Northern Ireland was!

What are you on??
Never heard of Darren Clarke! and just because dumb yanks haven't heard of it doesn't mean it's not on the map!!!

-Incensed of Tyrone :p

is that not the boy fae coronation street :D

As someone else pointed out these can be "sponsored" now by someone filling out a form and nominating. Now I do think there is a place for these for the unsung people in this world (the Dr referred to) but why oh why do cricketers, athletes etc get one for winning an event they've been training for and buliding up to for years.

If you want to recognise someone for their efforts (non medical/moral) then why not have a hall of fame type affair (obv not named HoF) , something that us people get to have a say on, not an old "the octogenerian queen agrees so let it be" type.

How about 'The People's People'??

In that case why should a doctor get one for saving lives? Isn't that what he trains for?

His new deal with Srixon, £3 million per year, nice one, to wear a hat, use a ball, and use some of their clubs and Cleveland wedges.
Don't begrudge the lucky fecker one bit. Fair play to him.
If his success brings a smile to some peoples faces and the powers that be consider it worthy why not accept it.
I am sure Graeme would be first to acknowledge that thousands of people more deserving who actually have a positive impact on peoples lives unfortunately don't get recognised.
