GM opportunities

It has to be specific only- not only is there commitment from GM but you have to commit to being there and representing the Magazine and any supplier well.

Some, I believe only apply if its near their doorstep, that's ok, but some of these opportunities and experiences you cannot buy.

I applied for 'Play your best' Great idea:thup: (what happened to the next year?) and a TM Driver fitting as I struggle with the driver- it morphed into something bigger:cool: and I would be embarrassed to apply again within 2 years even though a Titleist Scottish fitting appeared.

I had to sell my current clubs to pay for the round trip but it is so worth it to get a sniff of the periphery of what a pro might experience.

I have only ever put my name down for the Ping putter fitting (and was lucky to get chosen!) as I was really interested to see whether it made a difference to me.

It certainly seems to have but the confidence that I have the right putter for me may be the reason for improved putting.....?

Having had the good fortune to be picked once I wont put my name forward for anything again, got to share the love....

I enter a lot especially the ones where I feel my game will benefit.
Having never been fitted for clubs properly a fitting would be great.
Enter the clothes and shoes ones as looking the part imo is important.
Also the ones where you can only get through GM that money cant buy,or I cant
afford.
As they say you have to be in it to win it.
Cant stand the sob stories or beggers though,it will happen when it happens.

Only one I have put my name down recently for was the Mizuno one. I play their irons so seemed qualified. Don't bother with ones for clubs I don't like, or don't need. Probably accounts for never getting picked.:(

maybe the manufacturers wanted non Mizzie players so they can show the benefits of switching! you'll never know I suppose, depends what the manufacturer wants to gain from providing free sets

I think that this is a good point that is often missed. There is a responsibility attached to these opportunities that can often be missed. These opportunities are, at their basest level, a marketing tool and it can easily be forgotten that there is a tacit agreement when you volunteer to go on these things.

At the bare minimum there should be a comprehensive write up on the forum but more than that there should be ongoing support for the manufacturer that has kitted someone out for free. Look at the lot who went to TM a couple of years ago (Rooter, Gibbo etc). They still plug TM on here and on Twitter and still talk about that opportunity. Not many can say that. These are not prizes that people have won, they are opportunities that people have been given and I feel that they should be treated as such.

Beyond that, I think that the unsaid rule is that you either say nice things about what you were fitted for or say nothing at all. How does it look to a company who has given their time and product for free to see people stating that it does not suit or they are looking to change back to their old gear or questioning whether they were fitted for the right shaft etc. Worst of all are those that come on here or are very unsubtle about the fact that they are selling on the gear they were given. There should be more people like Aztecs who found that his driver did not suit anymore so he gave it away free on the forum for someone else to try.

Sorry if this comes across as a bitter but I have seen many people go on these opportunities over the years and I sometimes think it needs to be said that they represent a degree of commitment on both sides and not just a chance for free kit.

I have only applied for ones that are of interest and on a date I can make, although I did drop a googly on the Ping pro am day and was lucky to get drawn, then pull out due to other previous work commitments.

It would be interesting to hear how many forumers that have gone on club fitting days, actually still use the clubs. Hopefully if they do not like the clubs they will offer them to the forum, or even let us sell them for Help For Heroes.

Been a while since I applied for the clubs ones as Im happy with my irons/wedges and wouldnt subject any poor manufacturer to try and have to fit me for a driver. Still apply for any that are putter/shoes/ball/clothing based.

That said, OPs fitting sounds about perfect to me :p

I put my name in for ones that would be fairly local to me. Even if the things free I dont want the hassle of travelling all the way down south for it. Unless its something big like the Ping pro-am that would have been worth the travel.

That being said if the item didnt interest me I would go for it just beacuse. It would need to be a brand/item i would want/need. No point going for it just cos its free, when there could be someone actualy interested in the brand/item and they may miss out cos i entered.

I applied for one but if i did get on they would probably laugh and tell me to clear off with my kak handed swing lol , would love somthing cobra to come up , i like there stuff

Good point Rich.

My 913 is in the bag and won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

Where is the like button?

I enter those that interest me, but I also look at the time and date of the events, working nights makes it nigh on impossible to travel for a 9am start, I have all my leave booked for the next 12 months so would apply if the event started early afternooon as I can get a driver to take me.

I'm awaiting a ball fitting, preferbly Wilson Staff (as that's my current choice), or a shoe/clothing combo
