As self proclaimed monthly edition critique hear we go....

Plus points...as always Bill Elliot has another cracking last word.Best contributor to the mag IMO.
A wonderful readers letter from Fraser Spence from Kilmarnock.....pishing myself laughing at the thought of it happening! :D
Some great bits on groves, rules,Gmac,Forum and Jersey Golf&Sherwood Forest (played most of them on Jersey so could relate).

Negatives....maybe I am being cynical but found it weird how Trevose have a big write up proclaiming how their greens are back to normal despite stories otherwise....I say cynical as there is a readers letter regarding something else from a Michael Weston,Truro,Cornwall....me putting 2 and 2 together came up with M Weston from Truro is GM's M Weston and he is a member at Trevose and has done Trevose a favour with the article....maybe I'm adding my 2 and 2 up to 5?? :D ;)
Article titled 'Patriot Games' re the Ryder Cup gives a run down on the 'Definates','Probables','Possibles' and 'outsiders' to make the teams and included in the 'Definates' is Rickie Fowler!!! Rickie Fowler??WTF?!Brave, brave choice seeing as he hasn't even got a tour card yet!!

Anyhow, another all round good read and up there with Golf World as a great golf mag read.

Interesting conspiracy theory re Trevose. I didn't think this particular issue was as strong as some in recent months but then we have been spoiled to a degree and with the main tours coming to an end to the year there is clearly a need to fill space.

That said the quality of the writing is the usual high standard we come to expect. I liked Jezz's article about the quandry regarding paying membership fees for limited accessibility which I thought was pertinent with many subscriptions up for renewal soon

I would have to say that this months GM kicks this months Golf World into touch. Some great reads in this months GM.

Is that the GW with Trevino featured? Saw it in Smiths today and nearly got it - maybe I'll give it a swerve. The latest Golf International (with Westwood on the cover) is quite a decent read. I've not tried it before but some decent articles and interesting tuition pieces

As ever thanks for your all your comments - good and bad.

I can assure you that there is, indeed, more than one M Weston in the UK, and that our Michael has not ever been, nor is ever likely to be a member of Trevose GC unless he decides to uproot from his longstanding Hampshire base. I don't think he's even played the track! 2 + 2 has indeed made at least 5, if not more, on this occasion.

On another note, the comparisons with Golf World are of interest to us, based on how the two magazines are now put together every month. They have a deal with Amercican mag, Golf Digest; we have one with Golf magazine. But since they restructured their staff they now take large chunks of their monthly content direct from Golf Digest, while we choose to limit our crossover content to just one instruction piece a month.

Do you feel this slightly Americanised feel comes over in their mag or is that something you're not overly aware of as you read through?

Your thoughts would be appreciated...

I must admit, due to regular travel on the train to and from London I do normally buy both GM and GW each month.

The missus brought me both in hospital over the weekend and the GW mag does normally have quite an american feel to it. Normally a lot of articles with US golfers, which I like, so I can see where the cross over from Golf Digest comes from.

I am a subscriber to Golf World, as I used to enjoy it and I got a dozen free Z-STARS which is/was a huge bonus, however I feal that GW has really gone downhill in the last 6 months and it seems to be all instruction related articles.

I think the layout is poorer and the content is limited and not as informative as GM. In my opinion GM have got the correct mix of everything and the forum/reader input is something I enjoy. I like the Golf Course reviews from around the UK in GM which are done by readers which I usually find are more open and honest than an article done by someone who is paid to do so. Does that make sense? I know what I'm trying to say!

I will be a GM subscriber when my current subscription ends, how about a dozen fee Z-STARS GM?

Keep up the excellent work.

So I will never make it as a Private Eye then......Huge advert must have cost them a bit tho eh?! ;)

Jezz, I have not really found that the Yank cross over comes across, I am with Craw in that the reader input of GM is better than GW.

I would like to see more Course reviews and more 'down to earth or accessble price wise courses' would be great but maybe that is because I like to get out and play many courses throughout the season and it wouldn't be everyones cuppa.

Have to agree with Dodger on this one I bought GW as I had read GM and was looking for something to read whilst waiting for HID at the hospital. Several very good indepth interesting articals which dont come across as being americanised.

IMHO

I'm with dodger on this. Not too much American translation and much better input from the readers (point well made by the craw). I'd also like to see a lot more courses featured that Joe Average could either afford or get onto relatively easily.

I've found that sometimes reviews of equipment read as if the words are being said by a Yank - just certain phrases not the whole thing.
GW has a good selection of interviews with top stars, on a par with GM. TG lag way behind on this.
The current GW didn't seem to have much of interest in it, I always flick through it to see if its worth buying.
