Just one point Mike, blocking IP Adresses won't work very well. Changing them is easy and you'll find you'll end up potentially blocking people you didn't mean to.

Firstly I would like to apologise to Mike and GM for any embarrassment caused to them by my posts in the "Orka" thread last night. That was never my intention.
Next I would like to apologise to Rickg for hijacking his thread.
Lastly I would like to state that in future I will report any breach of the rules through the proper channels instead of posting about it in the thread and put my trust in the mods to deal with it promptly and fairly.

I'll keep this short and to the point
If things don’t improve I will consider switching off the forum temporarily and quite possibly permanently as if it continues in the same vein it will damage the Golf Monthly brand

I haven't read any offensive posts (presumably because the mods are doing so well in deleting them before I get to read them) but I'm assuming its only a select few members? Can something not be done about those members instead of threatening to close the entire forum etc and spoil it for everyone? This seems very unfair as the vast majority of members I would guess are playing by the rules.

Don't jump to conclusions that there was anything offensive posted.

Sad it has come to this. I've been guilty and had an infraction. Hopefully we can all come to our senses and move on. This place use to be a fabulous melting pot but there has been a downward trend across every section for the last few months. Not sure if its a case of the forum getting too large, although in MY opinion the more the merrier, and that more members means more clashes of personality. However I do think there are some on here that deliberately set out to stir any number of threads and continue fishing until they get a bite.

Anyway, Mike has made the point loud and clear. I for one have benefitted from GM's legendary service to the forum members and want to do so again

I'm in favour of longer bans, no warnings, here today, gone tomorrow. Gm own the forum, their rules. Comply, or go. Easy choice for me. Behave like adults. How hard can it be.

Agree 100%. I'm sorry that Mike H has had to read the riot act but it is necessary.
I think the OOB section should remain: how else can I ( and Bob- sorry Bob ) ask questions about PC problems but the Mods could be on special watch when the usual thread-subject suspects rear their ugly heads.

OK then let's keep the OOB section but this may not sit well. Let's restrict posts on religion, politics and England/Scotland/Wales/Ireland divides. These are always emotive subjects and usually end in the slanging matches we are trying to avoid.

By doing this you restrict topics such as football. I was going to open a topic on England's performance and how I'm not going to bother watching them any more but had to think again as in most cases it would have started a slanging match at some point. Again banter is one thing but it sometimes goes too far.

I would agree with a ban on religion as this forum just isn't the place to ask questions or make remarks as it is a very touchy subject. Politics is a matter of opinion and like the political parties we all have our views. It's how we get them across that matters.

I think constantly having a go at mods should be banned. They are there to do a thankless job to keep our forum under control and all people seem to do is have a go at them. Just like a referee in football, a mods decision is final and persistent moaning should result in (yellow card) a temporary ban and repeat offenders banned.

The more you think about it, the list of issues gets longer and longer

nah thats a decent topic, used to watch them years ago with mates round, get pizza, beers, end up turing footy off and playing fifa/goldeneye (going back a few years).

dont be put off posting folks, its the responses that need reigning in occasionally (rarely)

Great post.

Religion should never be allowed on the forum it can bring so much hatred, for me football teams are the same the one on Rangers got out of hand.

The Orka one i apologise to Rick for hijacking his post but i was making an observation about something i saw so i shouldn't get slaughtered for it. Thats twice thats happened when i've made an observation the first one i sorted it with the Op but got slaughtered by people who have never met me so how can they judge.

In part, that's an issue with an online forum and also with text messages etc. sometimes it's not what you say or how you say it, but how someone reads or interprets it. Someone who knows you and your sense of humour can take something completely differently to a stranger who may already have their heckles up about a topic

Steve its a forum, folk get involved in the mood of the thread/post.

This is why the internet is good/bad and stuff said should be thought about, text is easily misinterpreted! If in a bad mood something tongue in cheek will either be laughed at or taken the wrong way and jumped on. if the next bloke is in a good mood then no harm done but if the next isnt... so on and so forth it spirals.

Seen it on many other forums and its not good. This place is awesome, lets not spoil it. Have a big love in and move on

I dip in and out of the Forum, I would be gutted if it closed permanently. The opportunities that GM have given to Forum Members over the last few months have been outstanding, come on peeps keep it clean.
