This can all be sorted out easily. Get rid of the OOB section then all there is talk about is the one thing we are all here to talk about GOLF, no football, rugby( I have had my share in that one so hands up) or politics & religion. It is a Golf forum and should stay as just that.

I tend to agree.

Its an option GM are considering, however last nights action was all in the Lounge, its not confined to OOB,

Exactly, it was GOLF related but a minor infringement was spotted and it was then blew out of all context and ruined. Prior to that it was an excellent topic but it gained support from obvious area's and it transcended into personal agenda's IMHO.

It's a shame you have to periodically make these posts Mike. Seems I missed all the action but whoever was involved - behave yourselves. The thing that makes this forum better than most is that posts don't generally descend into abuse. GM do a lot for us here that they really don't have to do, lets not spoil it eh?

Mike/Mods,

Could we have Rick's ORKA thread reopened please?

It was a good thread til the retards spoilt it.

Ta

i agree as the orka thread was interesting from rickgs side of things (these clubs cud be keepers) but also from the orka side as the forum cant ask loads of questions to alex.

Can we have a new ruling that any threads or posts that are deemed to be controversial enough to be deleted, are held until such point when I have had a chance to read them? I'm fed up of missing out on the action.

On a serious note, I fully support the message in the OP, anyone that does not is more than likely to be someone who causes the infractions. I'm a good boy me!

Why? Does no one discuss anything else other than golf at your club? And are we not asked to put down other interests in our profiles to give fellow forumers a bit more info about ourselves which may then prompt discussion, which others may find interesting. As someone else said, last night's issue was in The Lounge, so was golf related. What we need to do is deal with those who can't behave themselves rather than restrict the subject matter; particularly with the weather as it is when we are struggling to get anything golf related to talk about. I would agree with one of the comments that the action seems a bit Draconian, but I'm new so I don't know all that has gone before and I'm a guest being offered a free service so I will try to comply with the house rules as a good guest should and do what I can to make it a place worth visiting.

Not sure what caused the problems, but like many others I come to the forum to chat to lie-minded golfers without having to worry about reading abuse or remarks that are detrimental to individuals or group who may not even use the forum.

I agree with the lifetime ban, sometimes it is the only way to remove risks to other users and whatever it takes to make the Forum an enjoyable environment for people of all ages needs to be done.

Its just a shame that the actions of some have affected the opportunities and possible enjoyment of a great number of people. Mike H great stance to take, I just hope it has the desired effect and people can draw the line. May be an idea to have a report button on posts to help mods in the future.

Peace

I'm in favour of longer bans, no warnings, here today, gone tomorrow. Gm own the forum, their rules. Comply, or go. Easy choice for me. Behave like adults. How hard can it be.

Sad day that is has come to this but it's had to be done.

End of the the day with that many people usng the fourn there is bound to arguments/disagreements and mainly no harm is done but people do overstep the mark in my eyes and that does include people who should know better.

In my opinion it should be treated as your online golf club, you join there and abide by there rules othewise you face actions or join another club and it should be the same here, you abide by the rules that are clearly set out when you join.

Oh and i'm kind of glad the testing oppurtunities have been removed as i have never been picked and i now know longer feel jealous when other people get picked! ;) haha.

I read a bit of banter about Scottish Independence but cant recall anything said that was really offensive. Didn't read the 'ORKA' thread as I thought it would just be about ORKA clubs.

Shame if things got out of hand. MikeH, I can understand your concerns for the reputation of GM but with respect I would imagine we have enough Moderators to control such problems(This is not a criticism of Mods by the way) If not then maybe a few more would help. Would a bit of honest discussion by the membership on how we can better self regulate some of these threads be of benifit?

Anyhow, thanks for hosting the Forum and all the additional events.

I agree with the OP as I've noticed the increased need for moderation and thread removal and have refused to get drawn into heated threads. Banter is one thing, nastiness and verbal abuse is another.

I hope for a stricter points system which in extreme cases allows for instant life ban plus named and shamed. There will always be minor indiscretions like swearing as people have mentioned before, we all have a drink at times when on the forum and deserve a telling off.

Whatever is done to improve the behaviour on the forum, I hope things settle down soon
