GM Forum Championships 2016?

A lot of work has gone on at Moortown over the last 18 months bringing it back to a more natural heathland course, lots of trees taken down, a great course still and was always a big favorite of mine up there until I went to Alwoodley, then wow :D
Agree on that Robin, Alwoodley is miles ahead of Moortown and Moortown is a decent track.

It's a bit further out nearer Pickering I believe. These 2 are right beside each other and believe me when I say Alwoodley is a stunning golf course and Moortown aint too shaby either.

Ganton is virtually in Scarboro 45-60mins from Leeds on a good day not in summer though!

Does somebody want to contact Alwoodly/Moortown to find out if they could accommodate us? If yes then I suggest that person starts a thread to gauge interest. I'd be up for it

Have to agree with this, the belfy discounts about half of the forum. Out of interest, where is the centre of England, Scotland and Wales?

Dunsop Bridge in the Ribble Valley has a claim to it, but think there's also somewhere in Northumberland that says the same. No idea how they calculate it though.

I'd be happy to help organise and be part of small team to get this rolling, I don't think 1 person could undertake it all, I have plenty of time to make calls etc, the biggest thing will be a 2-day date and in what month, as always that will be the first hurdle.

You might have a problem getting Tee Times on a Saturday during the season.
If looking at the Leeds courses then Moor Allerton could be an option on the Saturday then one of the Others for the Sunday.

What about the Night out and where to Stay?? York is only 15 mins away, Its much better than Leeds;)

Although not as convenient for time off work etc, a Sun/Mon might be easier to organise with the clubs.

Book a venue, pick a date and write up competition rules taking inspiration from threads like this, but make it clear that there is no wiggle room and that any complaints won't be listened to.

15 minutes away from where, York is a good 40 minutes from Moor Allerton and slightly longer to Alwoodley, which IMO would/should be the headline 2nd day golf choice for me.

Would prefer it a one day competition though !

For what it's worth, the first year this type of competition ran, I was really keen for it to be designed around the concept of inclusivity.

This was really challenging as for every decision made (day, date, venue, price, etc) I excluded some people. For example, some wanted an expensive course, others more modest.

Whilst it's impossible to please everybody, I think (hope) I made decisions based on pleasing the majority.

Continuing this thinking, I reckon a one-day event would appealing to most people, particularly those who have yet to experience a forum meet, for whom a two-day event might be quite intimidating.

As for location- you're never EVER going to get this right. Same for dates. As said before, organisers should pick this and then invite people to attend.

Ultimately, it comes down to how good a deal can be arranged. For example, people will be happy to drive 5 hours on a Wednesday to play a top 100 course for £60 rather than travel two hours to play a muni course for £40 on a Saturday. Mike secured us an amazing deal at Hillside a couple of years ago and, whilst being presumptuous, it would be great if GM were able to point any prospective organisers in the right direction (i.e. if GM had any contacts that could be used at a good course), perhaps even pay for 4 places to give away to readers via a social media prize

Definitely up for this.

only trouble with a one day event is if you are having to travel a reasonable distance, its a very long day and you probably would need to stay over so if you are staying over it makes sense to make the most of it and play again the next day.

I'll throw Astbury Hall into the mix... Superb course (imo better than belfry) and cheap! Shropshire way so more north than belfry too.

GT 👊🏻

A 36 hole meet at a top course will require a min of 11 hours (including a break), for four balls stick on travel for those a bit further afield and you potentially limit your market doing a one day meet

It could be an optional two day event. Singles first day and an optional team event on day two for those wanting to do two days

sound good too me... and that's with a 7 hour drive each way
