GM Forum Championships 2016?

Both Val and Virtuocity did fantastic jobs organising the last two KOKS comps. As did all the local organisers .Despite all the crap they got , also the reason Drive4show gave up.

Simple solution , whoever organises the event writes the rules, end of story .If you don't like the rules or format don't enter.

At the end of the day people will all have their opinion.

People who want to play and make it work will do. Others will just talk utter garbage for a long time :D
true,

its the the same faces that make it happen and the same posters who moan and dictate then don't bother entering.

Would like to see something happen this year.

As an alternative idea, what about nominating certain dates and people just post their scorecard for that day wherever they've played.
All we would have to do is announce in advance of teeing off that we are playing, then post a pic of the card.

Obviously it would rely on a lot of honesty, but anyone could play anywhere in the world, as long as there's no money involved it could be a good bit of fun with no need for the time and expense of travelling.

I think that's pretty much what IanG proposed above, only in fewer words

I think it's the best idea, the most workable, but it still needs someone to do some admin.

Said before that I can't/won't organise but happy to see what the final decision is. If it's doable I'll enter. If not I won't quite simple and I'm easily pleased and to be fair the courses we've used for all sort of meets over the years, certainly in my neck of the woods have all be cracking days out.

I'll throw my tuppence into this and if certain forum members get a tad upset then if the cap fits......

Lots will have ideas but dont want to take the lead
Lots say they'll do A and when A comes around they dont do anything
Some will like venue A better than venue B and will vent off big time if dates and venues to suit them
People who have no interest in setting things up will vent their spleen if it doesnt suit them
Some people will say it is all devalued if their is no scratch comp despite having no interest in adding anything to the party.
Further to the scratch part, some may try and suggest organising a scratch only comp whilst this is still being finalised. This really wound me up last year especially when it was apparent early on finals day was going to struggle for numbers.

As you'll appreciate, despite lots of help from many people I got my fingers burned a tad last year when I stepped in to help, im afraid i wont be offering my services again.

Spot on mate, and you did a great job stepping in.

I'd throw my hat in the ring, but with co-organising the Trump beanio, I've already had my fill of cancellers, not-really-interested-in-the-first-place-but-like-the-idea-of-my-name-on-a-listers, not-follow-it-through-as-soon-as-money-is-asked-fors, mind-changers and more. I'm sure there are more types, but I've used up all my dashes.

In fact maybe we should do a thread entitled, "what pees you off most when you try to organise a meet" - that would be a tasty thread.

I've done plenty of organising in the past so I feel your pain.

The only thing that surprises me on golf forums is that meets are often organised so far in advance.

Obviously bookings need to be made and people need to get time off work etc, just seems that's the further in advance an event is booked, the more hassle with changes there will be.

I like to work on about 2 or 3 months organisation in advance max, seems to make people committed.

No easy answer I appreciate.

You can't organise a nationwide competition with 2 months notice.

for what it's worth, I agree with Junior. Leave Matchplay to Nike (GMM) & American Golf as it's a nightmare to arrange matches and at least those events begin as Regional knockouts with no further than a couple of counties to travel.
I'd be up for a day or two with the Forum playing either individual or Ryder Cup style over 2 days somewhere decent where everyone can get to/from before & after the golf.

I'll keep looking at the Thread to see what is agreed.
Cheers!

I think if anyone wants to get this moving then the best option would be to have a weekend event at somewhere central with no qualifying events. Book a decent course for Saturday afternoon/Sunday morning (if possible) somewhere central so everyone has a chance to get there. 36 hole event, winner takes all!

Regional events and matchplay KO's would be a nightmare to organise.

Good luck to anyone that decides to take it on

Couldnt agree more, easiest way to sort it all.

I would go as far to say if this was the format everyone was happy with i'd consider helping organise again.

The Ryder cup match (England Vs Scotland) we used to have a while ago was a good event. not been done for some time and was as far as i can remember well attended.

it would be good to resurrect this if possible??

Agree with all the above.

Matchplay would be a nightmare, plus the other KOKs had a poor turnout for the final.
Big Meet, Middle of the Country, Weekender, Few Beers etc, Winner takes all.
Good luck to the Organiser :)

Just an idea,as an incentive maybe the organiser gets their Greenfees paid for?

I'd be happy to co-arrange a regional event in the South, maybe at my home course of East Sussex National. I think pulling all the regional winners together for a grand final is too complex. Perhaps its better to just to arrange this as simply the GM Forum Regional Championships?

I'd also be happy with the weekend 36 hole event and be happy to help co-arrange.

East Sussex National is a great track too
