I'd be more curious to know how many people have a vote that actually matters.
I've been voting for 35 years in general elections and never lived anywhere that was decided by less than 10000 votes. Does this seem like a good thing?
For the first part it depends on how you define 'matters' I've a great proponent of Proportional Representation in some form as 1st past the post is not fit for purpose anymore IMHO. But to me the moment you stop voting for whatever reason is the moment that someone has gained through you not doing anything. Even if a majority has come down to 9999 from 10000 it is still a reduced majority and the elected person knows that there are more people who did not vote for them and by inference, do not approve of their actions. Which I think is something all politicians need to know and be aware of. Unfortunately to me FPTP just encourages a winners and losers outlook, where as life often is more nuanced and often political compromise is needed for society to progress.
