We won.... OF COURSE!

Details to come but have to see what I can catch of the Masters on the red button now I'm home...

It was an awesome day for everyone from the GM team.

Just awesome.

Some one else might fill you in with their version of the day in the mean time... if they are home already.

I believe congratulations are in order then! Well done guys - never rated that Willett guy anyway

Who won then?

As far as I know, of the 4 groupings, TonyN and JezzE lost to Danny Willet and partner, and JustOneUK and Smiffy drew against James(3) and Tim(18 - but unbelievable short game).

A guess is that Jammydodger and craphacker won (they were 3 up after 9 - roughly).

Craw and ?, how did you get on?

It must be Craw and MikeH. (sorry Mike).

I hear Danny W ripped it up, and Tony didn't do his usual bandit thing. Must have left his sombrero up north (these things don't travel).

Jezz? Couldn't comment.

Need some of the players to post.

I hear Jezz let the GM team down...

most definitly not, jezz played very well and was unlucky not to hole some impossible putts.

We never went behind once untill the turn but when Danny started playing he was unstoppable, and Dominic his oppo off 1 wasn't to shabby either.

I'm afraid it was I that let the team down with a sloppy performance.

But what a fantastic day! Can't wait to see the pictures.

I am too tired to write much more but would like to extend my thanks to everyone from today, especially RGDave who was a fantastic caddy.

It was probably the mental fatigue watching HTL mug another 40+ points without scoring on all the holes yesterday. Glad everyone had a good day and it looked like the weather behaved too. What tees were you off

I didn't play to badly really, just had a handful of silly shots when I really could have helped win/half some difficult holes.

Whites, which were sort of middling. Two tees behind, two in front. Course wasn't exactly running though. Only came off a trolley ban on Monday.

I can only post my version of the day as I saw it... I'm sure the others will tell you their points of view.

Everyone arrived within minutes of each other, coffee and chat with each other, all the usual GET OUT AND PLAY WITH FELLOW FORUMERS kind of stuff. Some of the Ping staff were there and WOW were we made to feel welcome. I don't think I've ever been cared for so well. the staff at Ping and the staff at Walton Heath were TOP DRAW! After my 4th coffee I had a look around at some of the pics on the wall (old Ryder cup teams and more famous golfers than you can shake a stick at). Mike got stuck into bacon sarnies as Danny Willett breezed in. Obviously I couldn't contain my excitement and had to say Hi, and told him that his 9 under par round the other week could have been 10 under if he'd putted a little better :)

Everyone went out to the Ping tour truck and were shown around by Dominic and James who do fittings and club adjustments. Lots of vices and hammers apparently.. I didn't see much as I was trying to ponce an exemption card off Danny Willett ;).. I have vices and hammers in my shed.

Ping gave us some nice wind/rainproof tops and some caps and we all had some lovely pictures taken..... a few minutes on the putting green and off to the first tee...

On the tee I think it was Jezz and TonyN against Danny Willett and another chap from Ping.

We were playing off the white tee's approx 6,400yds I think.

Jezz hit a proper PEACH of a Drive... 235 to the pin and it looked like it went to about 10 feet, TonyN wasn't far behind... Danny Willet pulled his to the left of the green with a hybrid... I was expecting him to use a 6-iron for that short distance... and off they went. Can't say anymore as that's all I saw of that game. It must have been awsome for Tony to tee it up with a guy from the Tour... if TonyN was nervous he certainly kept it under his hat. Cool personified.

Next went Mike and The Craw... two more good tee shots and off they went. Then Craphacker and jammydodger....two more good tee shots and away (one of the Ping guys topped it 10yrds... but we didn't laugh,.... well not out loud)....and off they all went into the abyss!

Myself and Smiffy went out last... obviously the linchpin team.... we lost the first hole when the 18 h/capper from Ping holed a 30 footer for a net par

We halved the 2nd with par and after driving the 280yd 3rd I managed a two putt birde to go all square.

Whilst looking over my 10 foot birdie putt on the 4th the 18 h/capper chipped in from 40yds for a frikkin' net eagle - I could sense it was going to be one of those days!

I'm not so great at remembering scores but Smiffy and I played really well between us... it was definitely a battle against one 3 h/capper who was just plain solid halfing everything and and 18 h/cap who was playing unbelievable holing a 10footer across the slope on 11 for a half and a 4foot clutch putt on the 12th.

We moved ahead on the 13th with a par which we gave straight back on the next when the 18h/cap made another birdie :D

15th was all Smiffy a solid par and we were 1up...and another par on 16 from the old man and we were 2up... dormie...thank God as the Ping guys then birdied the 17th with a great putt from the 3 h/capper (his most awesome contribution) and another birdie from the 18 h/capper... :D

My matchplay score was 2 over par... but I'd picked up 4 putts from 10feet as Smiffy had a really solid back 9 only 3 or 4 over par himself.

It was an incredible game. The guys from Ping were awesome, both in their golf and in their manner, very friendly. The 18 h/capper was the best 18 h/capper I've ever seen! (can you tell?)...hats off to you Tim... great game.

We had secured a half... was it enough?

Absolutely!

The other matches had ended 2-1 to GM.... so our half made it 2½ - 1½ to Golf Monthly!! YAYYYYYY!!! we fended off a 2-2 draw and snatched an outright victory. Proper anchor men :)

I'd like to thank Smiffy for an awsome show of calmness when faced with other golfers who hit it so much further than him :D LOL.

He played really well and I mean that.

Dinner and a couple of speeches followed and then some of us sat around doing the normal chatting.

I understand that Danny Willet was about a billion under par, Jezz and TonyN played well but you can't fight off that many birdies. Mike and TheCraw won their match, Craphacker and jammydodger won theirs too......

what a day.

We've all been invited up to Ping HQ for a proper fitting on launch monitors/ a round of golf and lunch as there simply wasn't time to fit us with drivers.

It couldn't have been a better day...

Great Company, great golf and a GREAT RESULT!

Well played GM, and hats off to Mike and Jezz for putting it all together.... INSPIRING is the only way to describe it - what a course!

NB: I'd like to thank Murphthemog for his time and patience as he came up all the way to caddy for me and did a right decent job. I'm really thankful to him for his company and encouragement - thanks!

Yep, a fantastic day and I'd like to thank MikeH again for giving me the chance to participate, and the lads from Ping for making it such a memorable day out.

As JustoneUK has said, we personally had a great game against the two lads from Ping, James (3) and Tim (18).
It took me a few holes to get my own game together. I wasn't playing horrendously, but was pulling my drives on the first few holes and putting myself in positions where I couldn't really contribute to the match with the other guys parring everything. I guess playing with the two James's who were mashing the ball absolutely miles off the tee saw me trying that little bit too hard to match them, which of course I can't. I was swinging too fast for comfort and knew that I had to slow things down. Once I'd steadied myself down a little and started playing within myself, my game clicked back in and I began to contribute.
I was very happy with the way I played the back 9, only blobbing one hole (par 5) where I found a bunker just short of the green with my 2nd shot. I tried to nip the ball off the sand to get it on the green but unfortunately just thinned it a little and it buried itself into some heather in the face of the bunker and was gone forever! Parred the last four holes which pleased me immensely, and had I been playing a Stableford I reckon I would have had 18 or 19 points on the back even with the blob.
Dormy two up and I honestly thought we had the match in the bag. But it wasn't to be, with our opponents birdieing the last two holes to square the match. All credit to them but it shows you the quality of the match when they had to finish birdie, birdie for the half.
So a great day, great company on the course (thanks lads) and special thanks to Murph for the encouragement on the way round. My arm held up very well after dosing myself up with painkillers and rubbing the old Voltarol Gel on for all it was worth. Bit of a twinge towards the end and I definitely couldn't have played 36, but very pleased that it didn't give me any grief.
Everybody at Walton Heath made us feel welcome, from the pro to the guy behind the bar. A really great experience.
Still loving my i15's by the way...they are the mutts!
Rob
