what course were you playing? the 17th is a downhill par 3:confused:

Brampton in cumbria near carlisle, 17th is a par 5 were your tee shot has to land on the top of the hill or it ends up rolling back down the very steep hill.

8th is a slight dogleg par 4

12th has in fact changed from a - not long but tricky 3rd shot - par 5 in the corner, to a long par4 with a very slight left to right dogleg. The old hole was a risk reward one, the new one is just dull! as is 13th with a bunker in the middle and raised green.
14 is now a short (risk/reward) par 4 instead of a tricky green par 3

Sorry, I've mucked the thread up.

The first hole I was talking about was at Brampton.

Thanks for clearing up the 12th at PGA though, as I thought I'd birdied it with a four on a par 5.

I wouldn't play King James it's a very poor course now, lots of flooding and poor fairways. It's had it's day now. Try Murrayshall where you have two courses so you can play 36 in a day plus get fed and watered easily.

If you want a hilly challenge try Craigie Hill or Rosemount at Blairgowrie.

As for pubs there is loads, the Royal is a great boozer or if your younger try sportsters or the foundry.
