Gleneagles PGA 18th

A few of us are heading upto Scotland on Thursday to play Gleneagles and a few other courses but I was wondering if the remodeling of the 18th has been completed?

I did read somewhere that they expected to have it completed by May.

We're staying in Perth aswell so if anybody can recommend a decent boozer or 2 I'd be appreciated

Yes, played it last week, the 9th has also been completely re-done and is a far nicer par 5 now. Greens were suspect though but with the sub air system installed on every green they were confident they would improve quickly.

Playing PGA in mid July. Looking forward to seeing the re-modelling. Especially on the 9th...almost birdied it last time, so by default it is my favourite hole on the course. Sods law is that I will dunk it in the new lake next time.

For a boozer in Perth it has to be the Twa Tams,enjoy your visit!

Dependant on age, if you are younger, you could try That Bar in South Street or The Foundry in Murray Street. The beauty of Perth is that most pubs are within staggering distance of each other.

Stew, if you are looking for one on the way there/back, Brampton is a nice course, but very hilly, so get a buggy.

I birdied the 12th at PGA gleneagles, so there is your challenge. Have a look around the Gleneagles hotel shops, it is another world.

We're already playing Powfoot on the the way home to break the journey up a bit. I played brampton last year and walked carrying my clubs in the middle of summer and it was roasting hot!

Powfoot is a tricky track just up the road from me and I know the head greenkeeper very well. You will enjoy it. If your in that area try and playy Dumfries & County also!! Enjoy

I never sat down but i did struggle walking up 17th, what a hole that is.

I seen my mates ball roll back down the hill so I just aimed for the rough and come off with a par

Im a country member there and the first 14 holes are links the last 4 have a decidedly parkland feel about them (without the trees) despite the solway firth being a driver and wedge away, if the wind is blowing its a hard old course and greens are lightning fast most of the time.

Im sure you will enjoy it as i do a 160 mile round trip to play it every time i decide to ...mental..i probably am

Just take a provisionbal off the 8th, if ever playing again, even if you are mid-fairway. I would'nt fancy walking back up that hill again(at Brampton).

I looked at the PGA Gleneagles again last night and I was sure that the hole I birdied was a par 5 at the time, but I think it shows it as a par four. It was the second hole over a road/path, and it was after a shortish par 4 with a ditch. Does anyone know if they have changed the 12th, or is my memory failing? It was about 6 years ago when I played it.

I have played it 4 times and honestly cannot remember much about any of the holes!

You have point, although I can remember 6-7 of the holes, in my minds eye. It was the first "premier" course I'd played that had held an open/ryder cup, so was excited by that.

We played the Kings the following year, and that was superior.

8th is a slight dogleg par 4

12th has in fact changed from a - not long but tricky 3rd shot - par 5 in the corner, to a long par4 with a very slight left to right dogleg. The old hole was a risk reward one, the new one is just dull! as is 13th with a bunker in the middle and raised green.
14 is now a short (risk/reward) par 4 instead of a tricky green par 3
