Just got back from a weeks holiday, popped down the club for a quick game to find that the locker room's been raided. Opened my locker - no bag or clubs. About 50 lockers been emptied so I'm told! And although I've not yet found out much - it seems it was done whilst the clubhouse was open

How the flaming heck can someone wander around the locker room and empty 50 lockers - and carry stuff out to a van (presumably) without anyone noticing?

Not a happy bunny at the moment.

It is inconceiveable that nobody saw anything, especially in daylight.

Hope the Fuzz are checking out the local Car Boot Sales

When they get caught, they should be tied to a stake on the driving range at 150 yards and used as target practice.

Any CCTv at your track?

Fragger

I know it's a bit 'after the horse' but I never leave anything I am not prepared to lose in my locker. I had to get into my work locker a while back and with just a screwdriver I was in in less than 30 seconds without hardly any noise. I feel sorry for you and hope your or your clubs insurance covers your gear.

Sorry if a bit late replying - had to go for a sherbert or two to settle the nerves (for nerves, read temper. My dander is a bit up)

Don't have specific golf insurance but as far as I can see, the household insurance should cover it (unless the blighters try wriggling out of it). Haven't checked with the club (Dulwich & Sydenham) yet, as there's no-one to speak to till tomorrow. No CCTV there - and yes, it is a bit late to think "don't leave stuff there".

Mainly, as far as I can see, no-one is hurt and it's only "stuff" but it's a damn nuisance, and, and, arrrghh.... oops sorry - temper getting the better of me...

PS: was it on the forum here, that someone posted about here being a spate of this? Thought I'd seen a CCTV video of someone in the act??

I have heard of it going on a lot in SW London. Royal Wimbledon, London Scottish, Mitcham and Coulsdon Court have all had stuff nicked according to some guys I've spoken to recently. Not sure if that is coincidence or whether they are working their way around the area.

you seem to know alot about this homer. Coincidence? i think not

Still have a lot of golfing friends from that neck of the woods and one of them mentioned London Scottish being hit which made me curious as the last time I went there it had a security lock that needed a four digit code four which you had to get off the pro. I guess if you're after something quick and easy its simple enough to pose as a green fee but I couldn't see anyone doing anything on the same scale as the OP in that situation wiothout arousing suspicion

Dulwich and Sydenham eh - I looked into joining there.........

I used to be a member of Mitcham many moons ago and stuff was nicked from there ALL the time!!! Golf balls taken from fairways, clubs from outside the clubhouse, clubs from lockers, cars broken into and the clubhouse broken into and the fruit machine smashed up. I guess it says more about the area than the club as the club installed an alarm, grills on the windows and a security latch on the door to the lockers but the thefts continue.

The problem with the security codes is that you only have to play there once and the pro tells you what the code is. So, an outlay of approximately £30 and you've got future access to Alladin's cave.

For the record, I was a junior at Mitcham and around 1988 I had my clubs nicked from my locker.

In London, if it ain't bolted down, it'll get nicked.

In fact, even if it's bolted down it'll probably still get nicked......... ;)

I agree. As a fairly local lad (from just outside Morden) to Mitcham I know it was bad up there. It seemed strange that Wimbledon Common never use to be as badly affected but maybe that was because it was tucked away on the common itself whereas you could be in and on a train in minutes at Mitcham even if you didn't have access to a car. I think it was just Mitcham as an area being the problem rather than the club itself. Shame as I always liked playing there.

I forgot to mention the dirt track next door where the 'do as you likeys' raced their suped up 125s - and then wheel span them across our greens when there was no-one around!!!

Oh - Beddington Lane sewage works was also a delight if the wind was blowing in the right (or wrong) direction!!!

The tram line that runs right through the middle of it and the two roads that surround it make it one of the noisier courses in England.

The irony is that it's actually a lovely little track. On certain holes you have to be arrow straight and the greens were some of the best that I've played on.

The crime was a huge problem and I hear that the club now has additional issues with certain key members of staff involved in a 'free drinks from the bar' scam.

Didn't know it was happening quite that badly in the area - know some folk at work who are members at London Scottish so will have to chat with them.

As to security at our place - basically it stinks, but short of excluding all green fee visitors from the locker room, not sure how you make it totally secure?

Worst bit is I'm supposed to be playing my first ever round of match-play on Wednesday - gonna be tricky without any bats? (Unless he got his nicked too?)

Not a future Ryder Cup venue then?

thieving gits are everywhere.
got home last night to be met by a neighbour - we had had a(nother) new lock fitted to the shed block on Friday - gits had gone through it (the key is stronger than the lock!) and had a go at some sheds - mine among them.
they didn't get in but they've knackered the lock so I can't get in either.
