Until they find other 'more important' stuff to do :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

We did have a period when they taken off and pressure washed each year but that did not last long.

During the covid lock down they became large weed beds.
We already have some on winter holes and they are fine

Seems people just looking for negativity about courses looking for ways to protect their course during the winter

Just quoting the long term (many years) of use of them and the consequences.

Like you many saw them as good thing when they first went in, including me.

Are you surprised when people just look for negatives when they green staff are trying to look after it .
I'm not looking for negatives. For me, a moveable mat, that could be at the side of an actual tee is better than these permanent items. I once played a course where they had raised wooden platforms with mats on top for a teeing area. They were not great.

We had movable mats last year and you could see on the tee the damage they caused , they also took time to move around

And the “raised platforms” will be sunk in when a permanent position is found if there is a chance they could affect anything

I don't understand why? It's for winter only but even so, I don't get the hostility.
I will try.
There dangerous when there frozen.
The ones we had in a metal frame were not big enough.
They wore down very quickly because there was no give under the mat .
I got golfers elbow of these as there like bricks.

But they serve a purpose during winter.

Just asking but can they be used for Q comps.

They can as long as the course is still the correct length.

@clubchamp98 at the moment ours are new so they are nice and fluffy. Hopefully that means them being frozen shouldn't be an issue yet. They may wear down over time but at the moment they aren't like astro mats from the 90's 😄.

Something to keep an eye on at our place 👍

No idea about the comps but we aren't measured for winter so not an issue. I wouldn't have thought it would matter but that's just my own thinking, not based on fact.

Yes.

As already said we even have a local rule that they must be stood on when playing your shot. At one time we had loads of player that would stand on the grass next to the mat negating some of the point of having the mat in the first place.

At least what we do now, place the mats on the grass tees, gets over the no give problem and we ones we currently use are very thick and we do not have 'feel like bricks ' problem.

What we found was when there wet or frozen ( frosty) spikeless shoes are useless.
They led to quite a few injuries as when your foot goes your on a raised platform.

Saw one guy took the skin right off his shin as it raked down the steel framework.🙈
So spikes are a must for me.

Yes mats have got a lot better over the years.
