I think it stemmed from a group of ex members putting fake cards in when not playing the course so they have withdrawn the White, Yellow and Red Tee's being signed in on the EG app. You have to do it via the terminal within the club ahead of the round.

That doesn’t seem possible because everything links back to WHS portal , you can only stop entry by turning off the tee on WHS but that also means you can’t enter via any ISV

I have no correct answer to the how's and process behind it. I just know I can't use my app to do a general play. Can only do it via the terminal that is the same for when I have guests with me. They use their CDH to sign in for a card ahead of the round via the terminal

Are you sure? because they need to have the tees ‘switched on’ in the portal to allow them to enable using the terminal.
Is it that the club tells members not to enter cards via the App? However visitors still can.
It’s easy to check just see if the tees are available on the EG App.
GP pre-registration, score entry and submission via ISV is unaffected by disabling tee sets on the WHS Portal (dotgolf); i.e. if tees are only disabled on one of the systems, scores can still be submitted using the other, so clubs need to ensure they change the settings on both.

In the winter the white tees are removed, but we play off the normal yellows, so general play scores count and comps are played all year round.

We have repeatedly advised clubs to turn off their tees in the portal if, for whatever reason, the golf is not set up or fit for acceptable scores. We have done this again this year when re iterating the new Adverse weather guidelines, there is a good video on the EG website showing clubs how to do it.
We also do a check a couple of times to see if clubs have turned tees off and/or winter tees on. The message appears to be getting through.
We did this a couple of years ago. A visiting group came in and complained that the EG app wouldnt allow them to submit an intention to submit a GP score. We explained the tee markers had been turned off as the course was not set up (forward tees) for acceptable scores to be submitted.

They happily accepted the explanation and said..."no problem, we will just hand our cards in to our handicap secretary then".

I'm playing a course next week (Toot Hill) that doesn't appear to be on EG at all. So nobody will be entering a card there I guess.

And if they did you can see by going to the Score Listing report in the WHS portal and simply delete those scores.

Toot Hill doesnt exist as a golf "club" anymore.

It has no members and I believe operates as an independent pay and play course without handicapping committee or any of the usual organisation you would associate with a golf club. It isnt even affiliated with The Essex Golf Union

There is no listing for Toot Hill in either the US National Course Rating Database or the R&A equivalent.

It is however a lovely course with some attractive interesting holes. Just go and enjoy without worrying about submitting a card.

Indeed....I was just highlighting the disdain that some golfers have for the rules and no matter what you do as a club, someone will always be trying to circumvent them.

Yeah, it is what it is, I just found it unusual since 99% of courses probably are on EG etc. I guess they won't have course and slope ratings either so we'll just play off our indexes like we did in the olden days pretty much??
Edit: My bad, I just found a scorecard on their site which does have ratings on it - I'll just have to figure out how to do the maths myself.

Sounds great, but simply not practical at our place to ask greenkeepers to have a course acceptable for GP scores from Nov to March. Without that stipulation, keeping course open for some sort of recreational play is achievable - weather permitting. Happy with that.

It is one of the joys I found when joining this club. Sometimes we have been virtually the only club open for quite a few miles around and up until about 7 years ago we never closed*. Natural sandstone base on a hilly course and it quickly dries out apart from one hole next to the river. Many years ago we built an alternative green for that hole with an alternative tee for the next hole so we still get 18 holes.

* New club manager and new course manager within the same year with different attitudes to previous ones. Buggy bans only came in when they joined the club.

Was lucky enough to play Swinley Forest recently. Went to register my round on EG and couldn't find it so asked in pro shop and was told they are not registered with EG. Then asked how they run competitions and was told 'easy, we don't play competitions!'

Great track, just a shame I couldn't have it on my EG record!

The Artisans have the course registered but it’s called -Fernhill Artisan , that allows you to put a card in there

they have created a rated winter course this year at our place so you can put in a GP - though quite why anyone would want to is beyond me. Winter is for match play

I'd heard there was a random one with a odd name, but it never came up on the App so not sure you can still do that.....Sunningdale came up as close by.....what a place for golf courses around that area !!!

Yes if you have the money. Pretty sure Swinley Forest membership is invite only or at least it used to be.

The good side is that the area also has/had a good number of pay and play courses.
