Hello to all.

Right, I finally managed to get to category one (5.3), and was hoping to stay there for most of this winter. There is a county wide category one series of tournaments at some of the best courses here, which I wanted to play in, but your handicap cannot be over 5.4. Anyway, last week I played in the weekly stableford, scored 36 points, and thought I'd stay at 5.3. However, I've gone up to 5.4, as the person marked me down for a 5 on the 3rd (I had a 4). As he got the points the same as me, I didn't check the gross scores thoroughly. No excuse, yes I'm annoyed  that he marked down the wrong score, but ultimately, it's my fault for not checking all the scores at the end. :o

So, point of the post. There's no weekly stableford this week as they've hollow tined the greens, but I'm playing with the same guy today for fun. We always play off the whites, so...if I play a good round, can I hand in the card for handicapping purposes, OR DOES IT NOT WORK LIKE THAT?

Any and all advice appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

As Bob says, if you feel you should be adjusted you will need to contact the county. You will need some special circumstances and I doubt that a single hole card error will suffice.

Don't worry about the card, just play him for cash and kick his arse!! ;)

Short answer to the General play/supplementary score question is "No, it doesn't work like that".

However, all is not lost. Although the 5 stands in the competition, the score should be altered back to a 4 for handicap purposes. CONGU UHS Clause 17.1 Note 2. (A bit anal I know but I did have to look it up - promise).

Have a word with your handicap secretary and point him in the direction of the good book.

You say that to enter the competition your handicap can be no higher than 5.4, but from reading your post your handicap is exactly 5.4. I'm not seeing what the issue is here?

I understand your annoyance at getting the .1 back though and good luck with the series!!

Cheers for the advice folks. Yes I'm 5.4, but there are 5 qualifiers left this season, plus the winter golf series, so .1 could make all the difference as regards my getting to play in it.

I should indeed play him for all the cash we each have - me being a struggling first time buyer, and he being a multi millionaire businessman!

CHEERS AGAIN DUDES

You've got to get into the habit of checking your GROSS scores after EVERY comp. For me its just a quick run through of all the holes and takes 20 seconds. I'm sure you wont make this same mistake again though ;)

Im Cat 3 and I have twice put cards in under General Play and been cut both times.

Of course it has to be a good round, Normally when I have spanked Imurgs fat ass

Fragger

So as a cat 3 I can put a card in from general play, or maybe thats just your club or what?

cat 2,3 and 4 golfers can have general play cuts. Only last week my mate said he wanted to have a go for a cut when we played a nice friendly match one morning (he was off 6.5 btw). I said fine i'll mark a card for him and he went round in 2 over 74 , we put the card in and he got cut a whole stroke to 5.5 , job done :D

Unless that card was a Supplementary Score then this is totally against all the handicapping system rules. A general play adjustment is supposed to be exactly that ie a change to handicap because it is obvious over several rounds (including non qualifying events, performances in matchplay and opens etc) that your handicap it not a reflection of your ability. It should never be done on the basis of one round.

To be accepted as a supplementary score the player must have had less than 6 qualifying scores the previous season.

That seems about right , he only gets to play comps on Sundays and we dont have many on Sundays at our place. Its good to see him getting the chance to get his h/c cut tbh
