Apologies for another watch related thread…..

I currently have an Apple Watch. Thought about replacing with a Garmin one that I can use for golf plus measuring walking distances / other exercise.

But, I would want the watch to be able to do the same as the Apple Watch, receive calls (when connected to phone), receive texts, WhatsApp etc.

So for those of you with Garmin watches and iPhones, does your watch do all that?

Thanks in advance

You mean speak through the watch ? Mine doesn't do that but does everything else . Epix pro.
There are garmins that do.

My S42 does it (can answer calls too but not able to hear/speak via watch)

When its in golf GPS mode the message alerts/calls don't come through to phone
Exercise is limited to steps/distance/time when walking or jogging

I’ve never understood why you would want to use your watch instead of your phone to take/make calls.

When I first moved to my house 10 years ago It was the first time I had ever had a door that locks behind you

Left keys inside

Phone inside

Locked myself out

Luckily my watch back then could make calls so I called my grandad to bring me my spare key whilst i finished my DIY lol 🤣

Ah, there is a useful purpose. 👏

When mobile phones started having cameras in them I couldn't work out why. Why would people want them in a phone, that didn't make sense to me. Oh, how wrong was I....................I also don't feel the need for a watch to make calls but now I keep quiet and see how everything evolves.

I've had Garmin Venu 2 for a few years.
It's a decent functional golf watch but without unnecessary fancy graphics, just the basics and all necessary distances.
It has all the health and fitness tracking you could want and smartphone notifications so you can see who is calling or messaging you and read the messages.
I'm sure it can do more but I don't need it to. The more recent versions are presumably much better.

My wife has been looking at garmins and wants one with speaker and mic for calls like her current Fitbit. One of the Garmin range has it, possibly was one of the venu range.

Anyone with a Garmin watch attempt to setup payments and found your bank is not supported!

These are the only Mastercard supported banks in the UK:

  • Curve
  • Danske Bank
  • Monzo
  • Prepaid Financial Services
  • Revolut
  • Santander
  • Starling Bank
  • Wirecard Card Solutions Limited
  • Wise

Has anyone got any recommendations on the above?

Hi. I use the Curve Card with my Garmin Vivoactive 3 and just link it to your current bank debit card via their App. It's pretty easy and I've used for a couple of years without any issues.

My Apple Watch sits in a drawer now that I have a garmin approach S70. A far superior watch once you get beyond the fact that all your Apple Watch really does is save you putting your hand in your pocket to answer your phone or pay for things.

And this is from an Apple fan
