Hi Guys,

I have been playing golf for about 9 years on and off but a lot over the last 4 years but have never obtained a handicap or played any meaningful golf just with friends.

Can anyone tell me how to obtain a handicap and play in competitions I'm worried about being sneered at if I do play as I'm still learning the rules to golf and don't know a huge amount.

Any info and tips would be greatly appreciated I really wanna get on and learn and play with different people along the way.

Cheers
Andy

Welcome to the Forum Andy.
Being a member of a club is the start point. Then you would need to submit 3 x 18 hole (or 56 holes worth of cards which ever way) cards signed by another member and the club would issue you with a Handicap.

Are you at a club now? If not, is joining one on your agenda?

Have you joined a club yet? If not thats the 1st step towards getting an official handicap, once you've got a membership sorted you'll be asked to provide 3 cards marked and signed by another member.

Join a club, put three qualifying cards in and get cracking. In my opinion having an accurate and valid handicap is as vital as having a putter in the bag. Get one and you can play in competitions which will in turn introduce you to more members and playing partners

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies funnily enough I am and have been a member of a club for 2 years but working away and so forth has meant i haven't spent much time getting to know the ins and outs of how it all works I am aware that having a handicap is important.

I shall proceed to hand 3 score cards in then would getting them marked by my playing be okay? he is also a member but no handicap

Cheers

Your club secretary will confirm whether they will accept your partner or not to mark cards. I think the marker is supposed to have a handicap but ask next time your at club or drop them an email?
