I changed my Ping’s earlier this year and have a 10.5 Driver and 20 degree hybrid.

I have room for one more club in between and my choice is between a 17 degree hybrid or a 15 but probably a 16.5 fairway wood. How difficult is the fairway wood likely to hit compared to the hybrid where I probably feel more comfortable.

Additionally should a fairway wood hit it further, pro rata, excluding the 1/2 degree extra?

Many thanks

I went through something similar last week,I had a 16 degree hybrid vs a 3 wood on the launch monitor, the 3 wood is 15 yards longer. My 20 degree hybrid was only 5 yards behind the 16 on a Sunday best so would say unless you have a very fast ss the fairway is going to be a better bet for you. All distances were done on a vector launch monitor so kosher.

For most golfers, the fairway wood would be longer in terms of distance than a hybrid.

If you have a very fast swing speed, and hit a long ball, you would be better off with the hybrid.

Low lofted hybrids aren't that easy to hit any way, so although the fairway will have a longer shaft, I'd guess it would be as easy (or not) to hit.

I'd go with the 16.5 degree wood. In fact, I have, as that's what I play. For me, the 15 degree 3 wood was harder to hit, and didn't necessarily go any further than the 16.5 4w.

Cheers guys. I have a slow swing having past 60 and play off 13. The hybrid is my stock club and when I was fitted the pro said I did not need another club. Just feel ther is a gap to be filled

Pro was right. But if you want one, then the 16.5 Wood is the one I'd suggest. Should be a bit longer than current hybrid (not all that much though) and easier to hit than a low loft hybrid - certainly for a slow swing.

IMHO I would go with the one your most comfortable and most accurate with regardless of the distance as I believe the accuracy is more important with that club :)
