As my club were hosting a competition for members of other salford golf clubs today, we could play at one of the other courses taking part for free. So I decided to have a round a Worsley GC with a friend from my club.

It was pleasant to have a friendly round somewhere else with nothing at stake.

We had that the other week with a Midlands tournament and we were meant to be given courtesy at any course within the Midlands Golf Union. Did not work quite like that, some did not respond to requests for courtesy, others only offered afternoon/evening tee times. The only firm offer available to my 4 ball was a 3.00 tee time at a course an hour away. I ended up giving up on the supposed courtesy and got signed in as a members guest at my old club which, coincidently, did not reply to the request for courtesy for a few of our members.

I know some clubs are struggling to balance the books at present but think they don't look at the bigger picture when not responding to these courtesy days.

A decent 2 or 4 ball will possible spend a decent amount in the bar on food & drink which is where all clubs main revenue and profits come from and when asked about courses in their area would no doubt promote or endorse that club due to its inclusion of being a courtesy club.

We have a number of reciprical agreements with other clubs. Wanted to take advantage of this to play away on the Saturday of Royal Ascot's race meeting to be told they are only available Monday-Friday.

As it happened we were looking for an afternoon slot and were happy to be flexible. I can see why a club would want to protect their weekend times for members and so I was frustrated but understanding to the arrangement

We have something similar, The Tyne Valley Golfers Alliance. We are able to play 1 or 2 rounds at 5 other courses, some of which have restrictions on when we can play. It is a fantastic idea and gives me a chance to play other courses, as well as others play mine.

have played a fair bit of golf with golfboysatty, his brother and bill who are all cracking lads but it's a shame some other golfers from one of the clubs wasn't on here to arrange games

I love these things!

As Fish points out, often they make sense in other ways.

We did a swap (for course-related issues) with another club. I've never seen the bar so busy.
