We played a rather bizarre format of greensomes this morning which involved both player teeing off, then playing their own ball and, only after playing two shots, do you start playing alternate shots.

It was ok. But I don't know why we don't play proper foursomes. I was looking at our calendar and we play absolutely no foursomes whatsoever - which is a little disappointing to me.

I've only ever played it a couple of times and, whilst I wouldn't want to play it week in, week out, I do think it should have a place in any club's fixtures.

So, how many of you out there play foursomes?

Most clubs seem to favour greensomes over foursomes, due to the fact that strict alternate drives can mean a lot of searching around in the rough for us lowly amateurs!

I actually quite like foursomes though.

I hate foursomes wih a passion, you wait all week for Sunday to come and then you play half a round of golf and all your shots comprise of is 9 tee shots, loads of chips out of the trees, and a few tap in putts!

Representing the club next week in a foursomes comp next week,(jimmy bruen for the Irish golfers) combined handicaps not less than 17. It's a stroke qualifier- don't know if looking forward to it or not

Never played Foursomes and don't really like Greensomes either. I like to play all the shots.

I prefer to play all the shots too. But foursomes is a classic golf format and part of the Ryder Cup too, surely it should be played a bit more in clubs around the country?

Makes a change from Betterball!

If it's good enough for 'The Honourable Company' it's surely good enough for the rest of us ;)

It's a very quick way of playing a very social game of golf.

We play a winter league of foursomes. Our major inter club tourny is a foursomes affair too. We had our first round last Sunday and its 4 matches of 36 hole foursomes played right through so you get a holes up total for each match. Then add them all up and the wining team goes through. We won 4 up and now get to play Sheringham at our place in a couple of weeks.

My old club we used to have the scratch league matches as foursomes.

I love playing it , it's a game for people with strong minds and focus. You can go several holes without a meaningful putt/chip and then you're thrown in the deep and have to do the business. Great format for sorting out if you've got bottle.

Most people dont like it cos they havnt got the stomach for it.

I have the Jimmy Bruen qualifying next week as well, where is yours being held?

Difficult format to get any rhythmn going at times, we were out for practice last week and i went from the 4th until the 14th without hitting driver, not ideal if your confidence is a bit low.
