Foursomes Matchplay ruling - can I leave early?

You're having a laugh here aren't you........

Not really - depends how 'serious' the comp is. This is what we do for our winter league that is a comp but perhaps not quite up there with the club championship in terms of bragging rights!

Single player adjustment really does seem to work.

A comp is a comp FFS, you cant play alternate shot with 1 player.

Sure you don't mean better ball format ?

Seriously though, can one partner not simply "forego" his shot. Not dissimilar to one person playing a pair in a 4BBB?
The difference is that a single player representing a better ball team is at a disadvantage, whereas in a foursomes team playing every shot would probably be an advantage! In any case, how can you play an alternate shot format with only one player?!

Not when the one remaining player would be playing shots 1,3,5 etc or 2,4,6

Yes it is foursomes.

It is really a bit of a work around for what is a fairly relaxed winter league comp. If it was administered more formally and did not allow this concession then I think uptake would be limited as frequently folks have family winter holidays or occasional other commitments that mean every other week from mid oct to mid March is not realistic for many to commit to on a 100% or conceed walk-over basis.

The shot adjustment are supposed to reflect it is easier to play as a single.

Looks like our laid back approach is causing some angst - sorry folks! ;)

Seems to me that your are reverting to threesomes (covered in the RoG), when one player is unavailable. Can't see anything wrong in that myself, though the handicap adjustment seems a little severe.

I agree it is a threesome but CONGU make no recommendation re handicap allowances. I would have thought the foursome adjustment would suffice. Difference between 1/2 the aggregate of the two and the handicap of the single.
