Hello forum pals. After being sorely tempted by some GM forum meets, but been put off due to the high amount of low handicappers and my lack off experience(also the fear of looking like a total hacker in front of decent players)an idea struck! As i have seen a lot of new members who haven't been playing long and a fair few who have been playing for only a year or two, would you good folk be interested in a forum meet for us newer, less confidant players? I think it would be a great idea! Let me know what you think, cheers. :D

Scotland is a long way for someone like me on the south coast, I think forum meets are better served by location than handicap as it is hard to get everyone in just one place.

That is just my opinion, someone with a 9-5 and only 21 days of leave a year.

Dont be shy of playing with lower handicap guys Deke. We all have to start somewhere and I'll guarantee you will get better by playing with such guys. Also lower guys will think nothing less of you if you have a bad hole or 2.

Get your name down on the next few local meets m8.

Andy

I say ditch this as a bad idea, there is nothing to be ashamed about. You'll get encouragement and tips galore if you just pile in to any of the meets.

Re: Forum meet for beginners, any interest?

I would not worry about you handicap, everyone at the forum meets is very friendly and helpful. I played the Belfry off 24 and the Goswick meet of 20 and there were no comments made if I duffed one or two aside from the usual banter.

By all means arrange a beginners meet but do not be put off attendng the regular meets that come up.

Don't be put off my friend I'll play a round of golf with you anytime.... I'll even hit some into the trees to make you feel better :D

Forum meets are a GREAT laugh, believe me we all talk a better game than we play!!!

I even heard that Bobmac 3-putts ocassionally

Cheers guys,i appreciate the comments.I am just curious to see what other beginners think, and i never said it would have to be in scotland! If we get any interset i would be happy to travel as long as it fits into my holidays this year.Regardless i will definately be up for a meet soon,i promise!

Just launch yourself right in there Deke. Its a great way to meet folks and it's a great way to play some courses you wouldn't play otherwise.

I've played several GM meets over the past three years and also taken part in the England vs Scotland Matches. It's been great fun and no-one has said anything bad about my golf, even if I did play ;like a donkey ;)

We've all started somewhere remember :D

Deke, the problem is that we get new members on here every hour from all over so they dabble in going to meets at their own pace.I would say that golf isthe reason we go and meet up but how you play is irrelevant because its all about the craic and meeting new people.

I have said this many times before, you will read posts differently once you have met the poster because you get to know their sense of humour. Take Dodger for instance, you would never think he would have a Tropicana tattoo syaing "100% ORANGE" on his arm.

Why don't you organise one mate ,put it in the arrange a game section pick the date and venue and i'm sure the guys will turn up, if you see how bad i play you'll feel like Tiger Woods. :D

I'd make every effort to come along, and I'm rubbish!!! :o :D

Thanks again guys,Steve i hope your offer of a game at Scotscraig still stands, will be going up to dundee a lot more this year.Would be a good warm up for a meet!

Deke,

I can assure you as a fellow high handicapper you have nothing to fear from the low guys. I played with a few today and without mentioning their names, Andy and TheCraw, I managed to scrap a draw with Andys Da, Thecraw and andy are both single figure guys but up against an 18 and a 16 handicapper their farters collapsed lol.

Its not about handicap or ability but more about the craic. Just get out and enoy the game.
