Yes another forum driving distances thread, but not how far you hit the little white globe, but how far you didn't hit it.

Sunday at the OF v WS meeting, I set up with 3 metal, took a swing, hit behind the ball about 8 inches, the club bounced over the ball, unsettling it enough on the tee, so that it wobbled and then fell backwards off the tee. Total drive minus one inch.

I removed the tee and proceeded to play my second.

Oh how the four of us laughed.

Another 3 wood tee shot a Woodhall a couple of years back saw me hit the ladies wooden tee marker square on, with the ball coming back just as fast as it went forward, straight between Hobbit and Kraxx who were behind me, played me second there from the rough behind the tee about 15 yards back from the tee shot.

I hit an 8 iron minus 50 yds last week, we have a large rock about 30 yds in front of the ladies the red tees on the 9th, (the hole is called giant stone) I thinned the shot it hit the rock and shot back past me to land just about 50 yds behind me.

Playing at Scrabo GC in N Ireland, I watched someone tee off and hit a concrete hydrant marker post that they used to mark tee positions. The ball hit the square edge flush on the ladies tee and ended up about 75-80 yards behind us on the far side of the previous green. I'd never laughed so much on a golf course as I did that day :)

I have played with someone who did the whole scuttle his tee shot, hit the ladies tee box marker, ball goes backwards behind him. Very serious bloke who didn't find it funny. Me and the other bloke were in pain trying to stifle our laughter.

My own one was a tee shot where I lightly brushed the top of my ball, it gently fell off the tee, rolled about 18 inches, reached the down slope of the tee box and rolled another 2 foot and stuck on the downslope. Cue a very red face. Ironically I then hit a very angry iron reached the green, it was a 195yd par 3, links course so it ran and ran, and walked off with a 4. I flick between chuckling and shuddering when I think about it.

I remember once - on the par 5 16th at Brancepeth - I hit a shot minus 1 yard. Unsure how I managed should a thing. I proceeded to hit a 6 iron, 6 iron, wedge to 1 foot and make par!! It was in a matchplay event as well! So I think i won the hole if i remember! haha

Wasn't a drive but the other week during a particularly shocking round, I was hitting a hybrid off the fairway, the club face opened and I hit it off the toe as well - it went further right than it did forward.

Minus about 40 yards after hitting a tree that inconveniently sits in the path of my 'power fade' and bouncing back onto the pro tees

Friday. East Sussex National West Course. Competition. 11th tee par 4. 3 wood.

AIR SHOT.

Just clipped it with the slimmest of glances so it landed by my left foot. A drive of about 12/13 inches.

Mortified beyond belief! But composed myself. swung again. Connected - 227 yards (Garmin S20). iron to front of green - 2 putt. So whilst it was one of the worst shots i've ever played I was quite pleased with how I handled it mentally. laughed it off with my fellow PPs, regrouped and played the hole as it should have been played. before I would have lost it completely!

Years ago with the small headed driver I did the fatal error of teeing it up too high. Swiped the tee out under it and the ball spins up past my head and ends up behind me a few feet.

I could probably do something similar with a 3 wood these days.

I chunked a 3w off our 1st tee in the semi final off the singles last year. Hit it about 2 yds but it rolled another 30 down the steep bank in front of the tee. Ended up right in the heather at the back of the yellow tee box.

Still made par and won the hole. My opponent was sick.

My mate did the same a few years back, when playing off mats during the winter, thankfully the course was quiet due to the rain, otherwise I'd have had to let groups through whilst I recovered from laughing so much.

I hit the ball minus OOB once.

Tee'd off on a hole that crossed a road....topped the ball which squarely hit the far kerb maybe 30 yards infront of me and flew straight back over my head over the hedge behind me and OOB into a field.

About the only time that a stroke and distance penalty has actually been advantageous distance wise!!!!

I remember when we were juniors my friend somehow managed to hit it backwards from the 1st tee into the clubhouse wall with lots of members looking out of the window. :D

Not the shortest but salvaged, pictorially, for posterity.
