Blimey, some of these formats seem very complicated to me.

Am-am, two from three or four. Teams are drawn. Threeballs get full handicap and fourballs get 75%. Max allowance of 18. Everything putted out. £2 a head, winning team gets a maximum of £10 per player, any balance goes to runners-up.

We have a lot of roll-ups through the week. The Saturday one that I play in is individual stableford, and we aim to go out in four balls so that if the four wants they can play a 4BBB match at same time - usually £1, £1, £1 and 20p 'bits'.

£1 in the pot to play. Groups drawn four balls drawn completely at random using a pack of cards. Aces tee off first etc. These days we are having about 6-8 groups. Pot is split 5/8; 3/8 for first and second place. Roll-up handicap is based upon club handicap. If you win you are cut 0.1 for every £1 you win. Only winner gets cut. Roll-up handicap reset to club handicap when Winter Rules come into play and reset again when winter rules are lifted.

If three balls divide total players neatly then we'll often play 2 from 3 stableford to count - but will always aim for 4 balls.

At our place the actually winnings are second by a long way to playing. The money is just there for a little bit of fun when the winning individual takes the winnings - and a ribbing for winning. And in the 4BBB aspect we always enjoy taking a pound or two off the other pair - or even just 20p. It's important for us that actually winning the pot does not become important - keep money secondary or thirdly to playing, fun and companionship

Individual - we all rock up, balls in hat and drawn in 3 or 4 balls dependent upon the numbers. £5 in . £1 towards front 9, £1 towards back 9 , £1 overall, 50p for Nearest the Pin on each par 3. I've won £60+ before but there is a "roll up handicap" system where if you shoot under buffer for your handicap you get 0.1 back and you get cut for every point over 36, and your roll up handicap can never be over your official club handicap. It works really well and the money gets shared around over the year.

Ours is done by numbers drawn from bag and is individual stableford plus team stableford - 2 scores from 3. If we have to have any fourballs then someone drops out of the team comp but stays in the individual.

£2 to enter (ie £1 for each comp). Winning team takes all the team money. If 15 players or fewer, winning individual takes all, but if 16 or more there's a 2nd place also.

Winner gets cut 2 shots for three games; second places gets cut 1 for three games. Cuts get bigger if scores get bigger

Most important (and much more important than winning) is the Walk of Shame - to put £1 in captains charity box - for whoever comes last (individual and team). Great format as it gives everyone something to play for right to the end. You may know after a few holes that you're not going to win, but you can still play to avoid "the walk". No-one cares who's won, but there's no finer feeling than realising your par on the last scrapes you one point past someone else.
