for sale post removed,why?

How many For Sale transactions on this forum have actually gone tits up as a result of a rogue seller? Bet the answer is none.

Let's be honest the vast majority of GM Forummers have enough common sense to spot a lemon when they see one.

I remember Mono got ripped off a few months back by a forummer who sold him some gear then disappeared from the forum after the sale. Maybe he can confirm if he ever got what he paid for.

In a shop or on Ebay there is some protection for the buyer, there isn't here.

Pretty sure it was mono. If you don't know them the simple answer is to always use Paypal so that you have some protection

JustOneUk, You have no idea how much spam gets posted on this forum. No idea at all. It can get a bit ridiculous at times.
Most of the time, a moderator is online when it gets posted and it gets removed pretty sharpish and the poster banned.
Occasionally the moderators get it wrong, but if they weren't here this forum would be very different to what it is now. (and not in a good way)

But I think in this instance, a guy with 40 posts to his name could be considered "safe" from that point of view?
I mean, did anyone ask the question as to whether the clubs could be collected?
If the OP had posted "yes" I can't see the problem personally.

JustOneUK .... you dont have a clue as to how much spam is cleared off the forum before it is read by the multitudes. If you have a problem with the rules of the for sale section I suggest you email Mike Harris about it as he made the rules and guidelines and not me.

I think I have every idea. I build and run websites for a living, I moderate on several very popular forums and own a couple myself.

I know first hand that moderating is a thankless task but that doesn't mean that bad moderating shouldn't be mentioned, error or not.

One other thing, whilst it's on my mind as a contributing member for approx 9 months... if moderators are going to suggest that members use Adtrader (or similar) then why bother having a for-sale section in the first place?

That's a whole new topic that was discussed and debated to death before the section was put in place. Some were for and others against, but it was decided that it would go ahead by the powers that be on condition that the above rules were adhered to.

The rules being....

1. Forum etiquette dictates that you introduce yourself, make a few posts and generally get involved in the forum community before offering something up for sale

2. This forum is for selling unwanted golf equipment ONLY. This not somewhere for selling TVs cars. XBOXs, or for golf-related businesses to hawk villas near golf courses, online golf shops, timeshares, mental game coaching etc

3. Do NOT offer items for sale here if they are listed for sale elsewhere. I.E. ebay, golfbidder etc

Just to clarify in this instance so I can conceed that I'm out of order... which was the broken rule?

Sorry Justoneuk but I have to disagree. When this section was first posted it was swamped with spam which was the initial catalyst for getting mods as it was unfair and impractical for GM to do it. I think since then they've done a good job and have tried to be fair across the board

I can't see how you can make the decision on whether a post is spam without reading it. Some headings bare little resemblance to the topic covered. I think if you canvass opinion amongst those that have used the for sale section in particular and the lounge in general then a vast majority will be happy with the service the mods have provided. They have always been open about why a post has been pulled. I think you are wrong on this one

We only have reactive moderation on here. We don't have the facility to preview other's posts. What Andy means is that generally the offending posts are removed pretty quickly, before most people see them. This gives the impression that the site is spam free when (if you could see the deleted posts list) you would soon realize that it's far from it.

No problem, as I said, I believe moderating to be a thankless task and whilst I appreciate for sure the hardwork that people put in to keep a forum running I also believe that mistakes should be able to be discussed for future 'problem-proofing'. Simples#

The guy in question had made 40 posts prior to advertising his clubs. I hardly think this is the work of a "spammer"....
I come on the site fairly early in the mornings and sometimes spot deliberate spams before anyone else is up and about and will usually post on the particular thread to bump it and bring it to a mods attention.

You are missing the point, he was only a member for little over a week. JOUK, your are bloody clueless regarding what we can and cannot do. We cannot vet posts r censor them, we react to them. The seller seems like a smashing fella and he was happy enough with my explanation but you seem to have a problem with me.

Not sure I agree on the money. The majority of us on here are very very trusting. I bought something off Crawford a couple of months ago. I wasn't sure about the shaft so he sent me the club to try before I buy. I had the club for about 5 days before I decided I wanted it and sent the money. I think we are trusting and hope the scally's stay away.
