For English footy fans only please.

I'm genuinely interested in percentages here, please answer honestly.

  • I'm an English footy fan who DOES support England.

    Votes: 62 87.3%
  • I'm an English footy fan who DOES NOT support England.

    Votes: 9 12.7%

I want anyone who represents England to win, I have watched some strange minority sports of late that I wouldn't give a second glance at normally, but because its being represented by an England team or individual, I've found myself engaged in it.

I'm quite patriotic flag.jpg

I take it back, there's an exception

Not English, though I am an 'English Football' fan. Only follow England a little more than other teams, but have been to a few ('minor') games at Wembley.

For too many years the England team has had 2 bit managers with no real pedigree behind them in charge, the only thing going for them is the ability to say "yes sir" to the FA. I find it hard to really get behind a team that is being coached by a half wit that has half the team playing out of position in formations that they are not use to playing. Watching England at times is like pulling teeth.

Managing a Club side and Managing a National side are 2 rather different tasks. Apart from (or maybe related to) the fact that Managing a Club is far more a day-to-day exercise, the sort of personality required for either role is quite different. And the biggest difference, to me, is how the Manager handles the stick/carrot of sanctioning/inspiring players. ORN would never have been able to apply his 'hair-dryer' technique at a national level - though he may have developed a different technique!

So the laid back approach of 'Woy', Bobby Robson (my pick for #1) and Graham Taylor - or even MacLaren (who beats Taylor my pick for #Z) is probably more in line with the requirement. The fact that The FA couldn't control Eriksson in their own offices demonstrates the different relationship of Club and Country imo.

QUOTE=rosecott;1083575]I am really surprised at what seems to be Liverpool stance. I have a friend, aged 82, who is Liverpool to his heart, but he is also England to the same organ - get a grip.

So because you have an old friend who is a massive Liverpool/England fan I should be the same.

Can you ask him what colour I should paint my shed?

It is equally a moot point.

What religion are you Rosecott?[/QUOTE]

I don't see what that's got to do with you, but, none.

But you only renewed your season ticket when they got back in the prem, so not as much as a sacrifice for you.

I have no idea what relevance that has to the point that I was making

Also, like most Championship teams, I didn't need to have a season ticket to see any matches I wanted to in previous seasons, a membership was good enough

Exactly - its got nothing to do with it, same as your octogenarian friend.

Did you read my earlier post? I have watched and supported England before, they are just not my "passion".

I personally can't see why someone wouldn't support their own nation.
I shall be supporting them and I'd want England to win no matter what they were competing in.

Be interesting to see if England do reasonably well/progress in the World Cup how many "couldnt give a toss about them " people on here start to change their stance on it....we shall see!!!

The results have nothing to do with the reasons for not supporting them

I'm in the not supporting them camp.

Its all stemmed since 96 where every manager has picked named players as opposed to the best players for the system etc.

My dislike for Mr Hodgson doesn't help neither:whistle:

Does it matter ?

Did you start the thread to find your answer or to weed out the non England supporting people and then critisize them

Still no one has said when it became such a crime to not support England and when it became compulsory to support England ?

Im not sure anyone has said its a crime Phil. But I'll admit I find it odd that people who like footy don't support their national team. Don't have to follow them home and away like club football, but I'd expect fans to want England to win all the time.

Well why do you think you can stick your nose in and answer a question that was meant for someone else?

Stick my nose in

It's an open public debate last time I looked

Again - it doesn't make my point any less valid
