Football Manager 2019

Haha very true. I rarely get sacked in FM, not because I'm awesome at the game, but because I've normally jumped ship to a new save way before that happens, so you're more patient than me

I once got sacked as the Liverpool manager.
I binned most of the first team and tried my hardest to get them relegated ................................... but I ran out of time as I was sacked before I could realise my dream!!

Haha I've done that before to Liverpool. Sold all the good players and then bought a load of terrible players on massive 5 year contracts with Yearly Wage Rise of 50%. Never got far enough through the save after to see how badly they struggled but always fun :D

My dad used to play it with me back in the days when I lived with the old folks, and if he got sacked from a club he would get his revenge by adding a new manager as them and releasing as many players as possible and wasting their money on old has-beens. :ROFLMAO:

Hang on, you dad isn't Mike Ashley is it? as that seems to be his recruiting policy in real life for Newcastle players.

It's all about Football Manager 2005. Started off in the first season as Colchester manager. Now up to 2011 and the image shows my current team. Also got Zlatan, Wesley Snieder, Kaka, Casillas, Komany and Lahm in reserve. Have won the league in every season apart from the first year when I managed to get promotion and won the last three Champions Leagues.

Great addition this year, I tend to get it every other year and alternate with fifa. Pleased with it so far. I play it on iPad so have the touch version.

Thought I’d start a save in Germany saying as they got the license. Started with Bayer Leverkusen and it’s great. Much improved match engine and I like that you have to be a bit more involved with the tactic and tweak in game otherwise you end up getting found out and conceding late on. Finished 10th first season but a good uefa cup run saved me. Up to fourth 3/4 way through second season. Ross Barkley being my star man

Someone mentioned the community earlier. Not sure if many go on the forum but that place is incredible, the detail and some of the information and replication of real life tactics is incredible. Once I’ve played a decent game I then have a few half season games where I try and create various tactics, a favourite is to replicate Keegans approach at Newcastle in the 90s. Only time I was ever successful was with a Man U save where I just sold all the decent defenders and had five attacking players.

Not to call foul, but what extras did you use?

In all my years playing it and managing Saints, having won many a title. I've never had a budget afforded to me that would get that squad after six seasons. Even if the players were all free.

Tend to agree with the above, that is an insane squad and if I remember FM05 correctly just about as good a squad as you can get, despite being only 6 seasons in with a team that don't start in the PL. Would be interested to see the Transfer History.

Tbf, being that old there is a chance many were wonderkids, but even so. I'd suggest the chances of signing them all first season in the championship would be slim.....

It was all just my natural managerial brilliance and knowledge of football that meant I was able to do it.

Or alternatively...........

In the 2005 version you can manage more than one team in the same game. So you can manage as many other teams as you want all in the same game. In my first season I initially played as a couple of teams from higher up the league and a couple from the bottom of the league above and released players who I then picked up on a free for Col U and then resigned as their manager. Add to that managing Man Utd/Barca/Inter and spending their entire transfer budget on one of the Col U reserve players before resigning gave me a massive transfer budget to use once I started to move up through the leagues.

I'll let you decide which of those options is the most likely. (y)

Am I one of the few that hasn't played it? Silly question, but a) is it worth it and b) how easy is it to get into

This years game is much more accessible than previous years. The new inductions give you a great introduction and tutorial. Also, every copy of FM comes with FM Touch which is a scaled down, simpler version of the full-game which is the perfect way to get into the series. If you're into football and have a decent PC to play it on, I'd definitely recommend it.

Hahaha!

I remember doing that in my youth. Me and my mates would give each other 3 seasons to rack up the greatest stats.

FM Touch on the ipad is better than the first 15 years of pc fm.

It's a shame they sting you for that separately, but that's Apple for ya!

Are they two separate games? If I use the FM touch to get started will effect the main game play

a) Yes, it's so very worth it.
b) Oh, it's just too easy ....................................... the difficulty is getting out of it!
It's crack cocaine in a laptop!!

They are two separate games unfortunately, so everything you do on Touch is completely separate from any saves you'd have on the main game. I'd probably recommend taking on a big team from a big European League on Touch to get used to the game, get used to building a tactic, making transfers etc and then move across to the main game. I absolutely love it and have been playing FM since the days where it was Championship Manager with my first game being Championship Manager 2 so happy to help you out if you're stuck with anything should you decide to take the plunge.

You're a Youtube guy though, so there is plenty of FM content on there that will help you get started, whether it's playthroughs or specific guides on features within the game, there's so much good stuff on Youtube at the minute. Also if you're a fan of Podcasts - the WeStreamFM guys discussed the topic of new players starting with FM19 on their 5 Star Potential podcast this week, well worth a listen!

Is there an older, cheaper version of FM Touch I could try and cut my teeth on?
I battered the living hell out of Prem Manager on the PS1 back in the 90s but all other football manager games since seem to be way too in depth for me 🤣

I've played and to be correct, the very first Championship Manager as it was called way back a long time ago. then when there was the split in teams with one keeping the name, where is that now and the other keeping the database, which is what become Football Manager.

@HomerJSimpson It is very easy to play, take the tag line for Othello, very easy to learn, but more than a lifetime to master, oh yeah and it'll eat into your life. Saw a great tweet the otherday

Me: the sun is coming up!

Brain: don't say it
Brain: don't say it
Brain: don't say it
Brain: don't say it

Me: Okay, just one more game
