well guys, you are just off the green maybe 40 yds from the flag, green wide open for you.....whats your approach to get it close, what do you prefer?
Me personally,i run it up 90% of the time, a bad chip n run will go further than a bad lob shot....but im scottish mind!!

Depends on how hard the greens are. If the greens are hard and wide open then its the bump and run, if the greens are soft then i prefer to fly it high(ish) as ive found if i try and bump it they sometime dig into the green and come up short .

40 yards from the flag, 20-25 to the front, Pitch shot almost every time. Maybe not in the height of summer or on a links.
Can't trust the bounce if you ask me.
I get the ball on the ground a.s.a.p. around the greens, but not including the fairway generally.

Chip and run for me, cannot get the ball to stop when I put it up high so go for what is to be the safer option.

Wot no middle height one?

A lot of variables. Does the green slope front to back or vice versa? I like to get the ball on the green asap - there's a bounce you can normally trust.

40yds is a long way... a firm low chip with a 50° onto the green and a bit of checkspin to slow it down..... with fingers well crossed :)

I for one have changed my approach recently as i used to used my 60 degree wedge for every shot around the green, for the OP question just off the green an eight iron now,but if i have things in the way its my 60 degree wedge. Its a part of the game now that i practice the most.

Same Here. Previously played all these shots with sand/lob wedge but after losing confidence in them, now play pitch and run whenever possible. Far more consistent and better results.

At about 40yrs or so I get out my 64 and try to drop it on nice and soft.

I have never got the hang of the chip and run shot, I'm always short when I play this shot.
