I played several courses around Orlando about 18 months ago. We saw plenty of terrapins but only one alligator - my ball ended up at the edge of a pond and there was a small gator there. I'd guess it was about 4 feet long, seemed very docile and appeared not to be a danger. Certainly didn't put me off retrieving the ball.
My wife & I were quite delighted to see it - small enough to be almost cute. But then, perhaps we aren't sensible about dangerous wild animals - we once spotted a bear in Yosemite and tried to follow it (at a distance) as it walked away. Stupid, or what?
definitely agree it's all part of the experience.
Hopefully I can just not put it in the water
