Quick question, I am trying to help someone who is having issues with the bleep test. I have watched them run and when doing the bleep test I can run it at the perfect place, so if someone finishes level or in front of me they will pass.

When running the test my friend has to take 4-6 steps for one of mine, is there anyway to increase their stride pattern which is ingrained in them or do they just need to work on getting fitter. If just fitness, apart from continually doing the bleep test is there anything else they can do.

At the moment they are running the test with me to try and get use to the test and speed.

Cheers

Sounds like your two different people.
4-6 strides different tells me he has very little flexibility in his hips,if this is the case stretching this area will help.

Are you different in size

Yes mate, they are stumpy😁
The stride compared to mine is always going to be shorter but watching them run with similar size people they still have a extremely small step/shuffle

What is the stride like when they walk? Can they lengthen their stride when walking, ie how many strides do they take to your one when walking normal?

4-6 to your 1 is alot mate , as said below its a stride thing

Age is gona be a big thing , stretching will help but i could be too late to make any real difference if they are 40+

Grew to hate it the older i got ha

Without asking I would say they struggle to lengthen there stride. , Also the bleep test becomes more of a sprint rather than a gradual increase in pace.
The level of the test is not to high but it is the fact that they run out of steam as they are using so much energy to complete the lower levels which then really hits them later on.

Understand the bleep test mate, done it many times, just wondering if it's more a flexibility issue or stamina, loads of exercises and videos on line to help with flexibility, but if it's purely fitness then as Tony says slow and steady and build them up gradually to required level, do they have the time or are they needing to pass soon.
Walking slowly but lengthening their stride is a start.

To help with the flexibility get them to drink loads of water daily and if they can a Glucosamine, MSM and Chondroitin mix. My Protein do a pill which combines all three combine that with some daily stretching and with any luck that should help.

Poss got till Christmas to pass mate

we have a watch bleep test comp every month for fun at work. the best way to train for it is to run on a treadmill for no longer than 10 minutes. but try and run further each time you try it. it hard at first but you'd be surprised how far you can run in 10 minutes

Unless there is a medical reason, like others have said with not much time they need to grit their teeth and go for it, regardless of stride you need to train them to reach the minimum level required, as others have said interval trg on road or treadmill.

This is what I thought, have started doing interval tng with them, just wondered if there was anything else I was missing that I could do with them.

If time was on your side mate there are some excellent trg programmes, if you get the chance seek out a book called, Run Faster, Run Less, has programmes for virtually every distance and pace you need for all fitness levels.
