Well yesterday was my first ever round carrying and it was thoughourly enjoyable.
It was a stableford in 27degrees of glorious sunshine and clear blue sky.

Suffice to say i finished with 7 blobs and 29 points off 15 but it was staying loyal to learning to hit my driver that caused the blobs.
As much as it killed me to not take the 3 wood out i have to learn to be comfy with the driver too.
Its the one club im really struggling with.

I would recommend carrying to anyone though.
It was great not having to take detours around greens for my ball.

I used to use a trolley but swapped over to carrying this year. I find it's easier than wheeling around the greens with the trolley, I also like the fact that it's a bit more of a workout than the trolley, which is never a bad thing.

i wouldnt have it any other way,

I said the same once, a long time ago.....

As to the original post, why would you 'stay loyal' to your driver in the middle of a competition? With 7 blobs and 29 points otherwise it looks more like handicap protection than anything else to me.... :)

I started carrying last week. Much prefer it. Played Saturday & Sunday and feel fine today. After using the pull trolley my calfs would always be hurting the next day.

Also it seem that i am playing a lot better now i am carrying?

Yep, partner though I was nuts to carry yesterday, as I saw him try to haul his trolley out of a rabbit hole, get told off for not using a path and hitting with the wrong club twice cos he took the wrong one and his bag was miles away I thought I'll carry as long as I can physically do so.

I have just about always carried my clubs for the 30 years that I have been playing. I did buy a Powakaddy about ten years ago but sold it after a couple of months as it was inconvenient and more trouble than it was worth. I much prefer the flexibility that carrying allows and agree that it is better exercise.

That said, I played 36 holes last Wednesday and by the end of the second round, my back was pretty sore. If I played more often then I think I would consider getting a trolley for the first time but given my limited golf this year, it can wait.

Played friday, Saturday and sunday. I only carry and have done for the last 2 years. Saturday was a 5 n' half hour round and I felt fine afterwards. I will admit I was about ready to faint walking up the 18th on sunday. Legs feel like Jelly today. In winter when its cold its nice as I feel I warm up quicker but in this weather its a bit of a killer. Even more so when your walking uphill on a par5 directly into the sun :(

i changed to a carry bag for this year. was too much hassle getting your bag plus a trolley in your boot then more than likely the same again from someone else!

Made a promise to myself going out that no matter how bad i was hitting it id stay with it.
I normally only hit it on our par 5's where i have the room.....On the other holes there is too much trouble within range of a good belt from me if im even a little off line with it.....

Its gonna be a different strategy next weekend though......The 3 wood will have its day once again.....Ill pull the driver on the hole that i have some room for err on.

I prefer to carry but my back prefers a trolley. I can hit buckets of balls on the range and sleep at night but after 18 holes even with a light carry bag and decent straps I know I'll be in for some discomfort later in the day.

Maybe ditching a few clubs and all the other modern paraphernalia would work instead of stubbornly porting 14 clubs and associated gubbins. Also I do feel I lose some of the distance perception when I can't "stalk" my putts and chips so easily as I could carrying my bag.

Alternatively I could just hit the ball straight down the middle and cut the distance walked that way?! :D

I've got my first game since August tomorrow and it will be using a carry bag. I havnt carried since the 90's and i've been whittling down the things i'm hoping i'm not going to need to keep it as light as possible. I've got 4 balls and 6 tees , no spare clothing and no 3 iron either. It still feels heavy to me though !

Now thats a confident golfer JD.

I don't mind carrying after work for nine holes and maybe the odd round but I prefer a trolley. I can load it up with drinks (essential in the heat) and food (important as I'm diabetic and find I struggle when it gets hot) and can let the trolley take the strain

I like to carry (65yrs old). But if it dodgy underfoot I will use a push trolley. So thats mainly winter and when its very wet and slippery. But other than that carry every time.

Will probably never carry again (if I can help it) just don't see the point when everyone has trolleys. Much better to stock up on bananas/fluids/ciggys/balls/GPS/tees/towels/gloves/brolly etc than go without.

In the Winter I might go 'pencil bag' with 4 clubs and a putter as I'm really beginning to loathe Winter golf (Woodhall didn't help!)
