Out tomorrow, despite my better judgement, in a Stableford and off the whites. Thought I was playing fun golf but sadly no. I have to beat myself up instead.

I don't normally venture out with a bit of paper in my hand before March at the earliest, so expectations are low what with sodden ground and an awful weather forecast in prospect.

Who else is giving it -or has already given it- a go this early in the year?

No more qualifiers at Aylesbury Park - they don't start till April and membership expires 31st March
Sadly, qualifiers don't start at The Zoo until early April as well.
Still, gives me time to learn my way around the course.

Good luck tomorrow JD👍

Had booked into my first ever qualifier having played in 3 roll ups to get my card.....but its been called off as all this rain means 18 temporary greens.

Will have to wait for my "induction" :o though hope to maybe get out at some time over the weekend for a hit as I didn't play last weekend either due to temps and the crap weather.

God I HATE this game sometimes because of how it messes with you.

Played beautifully and walk off the 12th green level par with 24 points.

Had arrived at the club only to find that our club's annual handicap review had been done yesterday and because of last year's horrendous season I had been given an extra shot.

Guess where I got it? The par 3 13th hole.

I had the honour and proceeded to hit the worst shot I've hit in years - smothering a rescue into some fir trees just off the tee👀

Hacked out and then had an approach that went to the greenside bunker. Out of there with a 20 foot putt for a point. It looked into the hole and decided it didn't fancy it - blob!!

I then scored four consecutive single points.

Final kick in the nadgers was had a putt for a par on the 18th and it stopped no more than a foot short

I walked up to "just put that out of its misery" and started fretting about one of my PP's line, lost concentration and lipped it out.

It was really a shudda coulda mighta day. Delighted with nearly everything but the result was woeful.

As I said - God I HATE this game sometimes!!!! 😒

Just a little comment on this, how were you made aware you had been given an extra shot?

We use Intelligent Golf and last night checking today's tee time I noticed what I thought was an incorrect handicap for me.

Then remembered Handicap Committee had been sitting earlier yesterday so checked my master stats and there it was +1 adjustment.

Email came out early doors this morning saying all players need to check their handicaps prior to starting and there was a backup list check in the Pro Shop too.

According to congu rule 23-5 you are supposed to have been notified individually of your new handicap either by letter of other agreed method of communication, so strictly speaking you should have played off your old handicap.

I did wonder and from yesterday evening I had expected direct notification but never got it.

Though did the blanket email to all and the physical check not count?

Also for comps we have our cards with preprinted stickers on them showing name tee time and handicap. Pointed out to asst Pro that my handicap as shown on the card was the old lower one and changed that manually.

It's a blimmin minefield.

Wish I had played off my old one as all I could think about on the 13th was "you've got a shot here now" which totally threw me.:mmm:

THis is what CONGU says.

Unlike changes to handicap resulting from participation in Qualifying Competitions, adjustments of
handicap under this Clause are not of a routine nature and often cannot be anticipated by the players
affected. Consequently, it is not considered to be sufficient for a Handicap Committee merely to post
a list of changes on the club notice board. Individual Members should be notified in writing or by some
other agreed method of communication adopted by the club.

Have to say that makes sense.

Tough luck on the 13th mate. Good scoring until then but what happened for the next four? I blew the 18th when on for a 36 point haul so feel the pain

Still hit it well but some bad luck - 2 putts that literally stopped on the lip and a semi-sodden bunker where I nearly played a great shot from semi-liquid sand. Decided to try that rather than drop and plug. My feet were in the drink and the ball caught the lip and feel back in.

Then add to that the 18th debacle and I'd have been in the buffer with a shot or two to spare.

expect the March medal on the 5th will be my next game with card in hand (and the day i go back up to 7) unless the weather allows a go in a midweek medal/stableford before then (unlikely with how wet the course was friday)

Played two Qualifiers this year. I was due to play today in another but after yesterdays practice round, coupled with a very wet course, I've decided to take the wife out instead. :)

No qualifiers here until April. The course doesn't drain that well and some there are usually between 3 and 18 temp greens from December until mid-March

Played my 11th qualifier of the year today in excellent conditions. Happy to report that I have buffered the last two comps. Things are looking up (for the moment).

Still to play on a fully open, unfrozen course this year...😥😥
Fingers crossed for Wednesday but still no qualifiers...
