First game in a while tomorrow

I'm playing 18 holes for the first time in ages tomorrow, well excited for it, playing with a friend of mine who doesn't really play often.

I've been to the driving range loads the last while and practicing chipping a lot, but there's nothing quite like course playing practice.

How do you prefer to practice? Range or course?

Much prefer to play a few holes than spend time on the practice ground, although I know that practicing my short game would probably benefit me more.
