Played in my first club match since 2008 yesterday - as they now have a few weekend matches. Played Worplesdon at home. Our team was me off 14 and partner of 12. They were 6 and 12 - and said later that they were unbeaten in 4-ball better-ball. Well it was nice to give them a new experience! My partner began with a birdie, we halved the par 3 third and ninth in pars and won the rest - took the match 9 and 7 on the 11th with our -2 gross better-ball score - we finished the round level!!:D:clap::thup: They clearly had a bad day but we played well and dovetailed perfectly - a rare day of it all coming together! Looking forward to the return match in August. This knocked the previous best 8 and 6 win at Blackmoor into second place in the league table of wins!

A cracking win, did you feel sorry for them at all?

I played a club knockout yesterday and was 6 up after 8, and I did feel sorry for my opponent.

I have been on the receiving end of some hidings before, although not quite this bad. I love matchplay but dovetailing is the key to doing well.
We got thrashed (6 and 4) in the quarter finals of the winter pairs this year by two "older guys" who took us apart - one guy, off 15, who couldn't hit it more than 200 yards, holed puts from everywhere on the last 3 holes including 2 birdies - he only had 2 or 3 bad holes when his partner, off 6, did the business - and he was regularly getting up and down from 100 yards plus - he was easily 6 better than handicap on stabelford when they closed out the match!

At the halfway hut we were 7 up and -1 gross - but their team in the match ahead was the same -1 and 6 up on our guys!! Before we finished we were 3 down in the match. We won and so did our next 2 - a draw at 3 all was a fair result and everyone had a good time

I play a lot of our club matches. These are competitive but the onus is also enjoying and it isn't the first team by a long way and tends to encompass players of varying ability as opposed to full of single figure guys. Tend to play really well at home and pick up points away from home too. Great fun and a cheap way to play other courses
