First album(s) you ever got.

1812 Overture ....bought when I was about 10 and I got a record player.

Heavily influenced by a school drama we were putting on about the war in 1812 as the music was written to commemorate the successful Russian defense against Napoleon.

After that it was a 1974 compilation of hits - a precursor to "Now.....xx".

I bought my first album in the early 70’s. Gustav Holst’s The Planet Suite. My dad was expecting Slade or something similar… I always was a great disappointment.
Slade were my favourites as a youngster, but I like classical music as well.
My wife and daughter love music, especially musicals, I don’t get my son though who has no interest in music whatsoever.

Got my first record player and a couple of tokens for Christmas, in 1981. Went down to HMV and spent the tokens on:

REO Speedwagon - Hi Infidelity
Meat Loaf - Bat Out Hell

As far as I can remember, I hadn't heard a note by either beforehand so I have no idea why I chose those two over the countless others on HMV's shelves. Glad I did though. I still listen to them both regularly nearly forty years later.

My first album purchase was Los Bravos Black is Black and it is second on my list of worst ever purchases of albums their was only one decent track the hit single Black is Black. the choice was that or Dave Dee Dozy Mick and Titch If Music be the Food of Love... Then Prepare for Indigestion I wish I had bought the latter

P.S The top of my list of worst albums purchased is Consequences from Godley and Creme (4 album boxed set) - a load of self indulgent tosh. I finally sold it on ebay for a princely sum 2 years ago and could not believe anybody would want to buy it.

First album I was given was an original 1975 pressing of Wish You Were Here when I was 10, my uncle was a super fan. I still have it today, and it never gets played. I actually bought a 180g repressing a few years back to protect it.

.

Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd.

Many years after it was released. ?

My wife and I bought it the day it came out. We were waiting for it's release and were on honeymoon at the time the record was the most scratched of all of our Floyd collection as it was played every day. It is a record I still listen to on a fairly regular basis as well as being (probably ) Floyd's best it bring back lots of memories. We had seen the live performance just a few months earlier at Knebworth.
