First albums I remember buying myself - Duran Duran 'Rio' and Bryan Adams 'Reckless' (at the WH Smith in Woking).
I do remember Christmas 81 though, getting a personal stereo as my main pressie (I'm sure it was a Binatone - parents couldn't afford a 'Walkman') and the first four Police albums on cassette (I think 'Ghost In The Machine' had only just come out) - had earphones basically welded to my head since.
Edit - just looked and Rio was much earlier than Reckless - memory must be playing tricks on me
