First album(s) you ever got.

I bought my first album in the early 70’s. Gustav Holst’s The Planet Suite. My dad was expecting Slade or something similar… I always was a great disappointment.

First album I bought with my own money was Black Sabbath's first album. I believe it came out in 1970, so I would have been 12 or 13. Prior to that I relied on my older brother to supply the music, which was mainly good stuff like Hendrix, Cream, The Who and other worthwhile acts. I think my choice of Sabbath disappointed him hugely. In retrospect he was right.

I can't quite remember definitively which one was first but it must have been one of the handful I had on cassette which my parents or other family had bought me. I remember three of those were;
Oasis - What's The Story Morning Glory.
Blur - The Great Escape.
Del Amitri - Waking Hours.

I had more tapes than that but those are the only three I can remember so they must have got the most listens.

Before long though I started just raiding my dad's albums, where I found the likes of Pink Floyd, Nirvana and so on.

I too a bit geeky....as my very first LP was Beethoven's Emperor Piano Concerto, a present, the first I bought (using a gift voucher) was Grieg's Greatest Hits. 1969 and 1970 I would think. Still play them both, as worn as they might be as I've played them so many times.

My first album was the Ghostbusters soundtrack!

First single was Islands in the Stream by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers - still a classic in my mind!

I cannot recall the first album, as a kid Id tape songs off the radio.

First CD I ever bought with my own money was Smashing Pumpkins double album Melloncollie and the infinite sadness.

Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd.

Thinking further, that was the first I purchased with my own money so...

The first album I was given was, Appetite for Destruction - Guns n Roses, on cassette
The first single I was given was, Stand And Deliver - Adam And The Ants, on vinyl

I can't remember what the first single I bought with my own money was now and that's bugging me.

I'm not including all the stuff that was ripped off, taped or otherwise illegitimately obtained. I still have all my Floyd collection but all the other tapes and vinyl were binned.
