Now I don't want to come across as a killjoy - although to be honest I don't really care if I do - but what is this thing with Fireworks.
Fireworks are for November 5th - Bonfire Night, Guy Fawkes and all that.

Last night from about 9.30 it was like a bloody war zone around here - all the way through till 1am.
Now I can almost understand letting off a Fireworks at Midnight on New Year but why from 9.30?
And why till 1am..?

Surely 10 minutes either side of Midnight is sufficient?

With the Economy the way it is and money being tight you'd have thought most people would have something better to do with their cash.

Fireworks are awesome.

God bless fireworks on New Years Eve.

Amen.

Around here we have a big Asian community. Man do they love their fireworks. Every weekend its a war zone, and not cheap ones either. Funny thing is the dogs like to sit in the garden and watch them.

miserable git Imurg ;)

fireworks are great, to an extent, luckily only a few let them off around here and as I was in the land of z's by 12.30 I didnt notice anything from then onwards

Personally, given the amount of firework related accidents, I would ban the sale of them to the general public and rely on public displays only.

OOoohh, you and me both mate!

Quietest New Year for quite some time around here. A brief flurry around 9.00 - for the kids, then bed? - then nothing more until just on 12.00 - all over well before 12:30.

As a general rule I would allow them to go on sale on Nov 5 for that day only. While I like fireworks, every night from early October to late November gets a bit tedious. (I'd love to know where the guy across the road gets the money for big fireworks sessions every night for a solid week.)

thankfully up here we only had the usual display at midnight and that was it.no idiots letting them off throughout the whole night and before the bells also.

the display was very good,i think oban should take note on how to do it lol!!!!

I spent New Year's Eve at one of the lodges at Belton Woods. It is on top of a hill and the balcony had the whole of Grantham on the horizon. It was stunning to watch all of the fireworks going off across the whole town at midnight with hundreds of chinese lanterns drifting across the sky. Truely one of the great views and I watched in awe and ignored the large display going on at the hotel at the bottom of the hill.

I agree that the sale of fireworks should be more restricted but the view last night makes me think that their sale should never be banned.

Just started up here again! Bit random seven-fifteen on a Sunday evening! Bit annoying as we had just settled down grandson for the night... Now we'll have to start all over again...

As per post #3 the Asian community do like a good firework display... Unfortunately two homes locally, in recent months, have been burnt out reportedly due to large quantities of fireworks having been stored within... Which can't be right in built up areas...

there was one like that the other night, guy had stored fireworks and booze in his room, they had a fire and
thought they had put it out with water, then it flared up again and caught the firworks that exploded, house
went up like a tinderbox, most got out but this Doctor thought his daughter was inside and went back in, he
never made it out, the daughters husband also went in mistakenly and he got badly burned.............

oh hang on, that was Eastenders:rolleyes:

Personally I've been letting of Chinese Lanterns for years at bonfire night and special occasions, beautiful sight, everyone loves it and soooooo peaceful

I cant stand fireworks at midnight, it drives my dogs nuts, one is gun shy and she is scared to death of fireworks, even with the radio on and lights on we were completely surrounded by morons letting them off until 12.45.

We went to bed early and half expected to be wakened by them as per normal, but nothing this year. We had family for dinner and they didn't hear any either.

Maybe it was the p#####g wet night or the current financial climate that curtailed them, glad for a good nights sleep though. Must be getting old, next I will be looking at Pings :D

Only a few round here last night about 11 ish. Managed to wake the neighbours 4 month old twins up though so she spent the start of 2012 trying to get them down again. I enjoyed the ones on the TV from London though. The wife and I nipped out about 9.30 last night and I have to say a lot of the pubs seemed very quiet. People in them but hardly wall to wall. My local which use to be manic was really dead

I don't mind fireworks per se but what I do object to is the fireworks that are slightly louder than an atomic bomb!!

Our whole house shakes, the car alarm goes off and then the Wife makes the same old gag about the earth moving for her .. :p
