Hi all after 15 years of trying and the past 2 years solid practice I have finally broke 90 I've played 4 rounds this week and broke it every day, massive weight off shoulders next is 80. My question is what is your story on the road to these milestones I think it's more mental as when I done it sort of feels easy now when 15 years seems a lifetime! So happy though!!

Well done mate. I beat it a month or so ago, 15 months after first taking up the game.

Key for me was breaking down my game and analysing where I was losing so many shots.

It was mainly chipping and approach play, so I worked on these and got much better, then I finally broke 90.

Off the tee is my weakest now so what I am working on currently.

I shouldn't be too long til I get there. Before this year my best was 105 I think, now my best score is 93 which I've achieved twice in the last month or two. The next thing I'm doing is getting a putter fitting done - if having the right putter can save me 4 shots a round I'll be there.

Great work!

I've made a big jump in scoring this season, I started playing properly around October last year and up until October this year my best round was an 89. All I had worked on upto then was my irons and getting a good base swing that was consistent. I have since bought a driver and started paying a bit more attention to my short game. Current best score is now a 75, however seem to be consistently shooting low 80's now.

Next seasons goal is single figures, providing I play enough to get the cuts.

Great to see different stories guys not sure why it took me so long as I've always been decent but always had blow up holes with 8-9 !! still had a 9 on card on Wednesday and shot 87 so I think next step is 80 if I can get rid of blow up hole as I started to believe in myself and didn't think about my score good things started happening I'm hitting nearly every fairway and my wedges are lethal! I've been picking a spot on fairway where I want the ball to go then lining that up with a bit of dirt on tee box then lining up to that with driver then rip it's working so good infact I do it with every shot😊

When I started playing regular golf 3 and a half years ago I didn't shoot in the 80's for about 15 rounds or so, having previously held a 14 handicap some 8 years previously.

Joined a club, started playing regularly and the scores soon started to tumble, currently off 10 and have shot in the 70's 3 or 4 times recently with a PB of 76 on both our courses (par 70 and 72)

Will keep my forum name though to remind me

That's great amazing so many people have only played a few years and broke 90 so quick it's took me soooo long mind you I changed my swing and started from scratch I also had the dreaded shanks for 2 whole years😬😬😬 I nearly gave it up because of that dreaded shot! I took a week off this week and said to my friends right I'm going to try and break 90 in 4 rounds and I done in 1st round and every one after that 88-86-87-89 today not bad for just saying was going try just shows if you want it just go get it.

picked up golf in july and put myself under immense pressure to break the ton before christmas. i was getting close and eventually hit 95 just by cleaning up my game and avoiding stupid mistakes. then with the pressure off i immediately i hit 87. not been able to replicate it in the five rounds since but i'm consistantly under 100 now which i'm really happy with after five months playing. really looking forward to next year and hopefully breaking 80.

Very good god you must be a natural such a hard game to learn in 5 month took me 15 years to get where I am and lots of money haha well done!

Well done sir, and four sub 90 rounds in a week is great. Let's get to 85 soon and then see you threaten 80 in 2017

Hi there thanks so much😊 It means so much to me, that's my goal 2017 sub 85 maybe 80 if I didn't have a blow up hole I will do it no problem

You've proved it's in there and you've done it consistently. Work out why you have the blow up holes, work out a plan and go ahead and execute. Sharpen the short game and putting over the winter and it'll pay off long term

Thanks buddy I know it's always on my longer irons 6-4 I hit all my other clubs perfect it's in the head I think as I can hit them at the range(of grass never off matts) short game great I just seem to shank the long irons when I most need them yet I can cream my 3 wood off the deck

90 is my aim for next season. If I do it once before the end of 2017 I'll be chuffed. Broke 100 once this year after picking up the game again in March having not played in about 15 years (when I was in my early teens). Averaged 105 ish, so 90 is a bloody big ask but I'm spending all my free time at the range at the moment and much more confident with the woods than I have been all year.

Congrats for breaking 90 though, can imagine exactly how you felt when you got round and totted it up.

Breaking 90 is my target after spending all season on under the ton. Hit 90 and 91 so many times it's annoying! Like you I have a few blow up holes that wreck it, usually between 10-12 and then everything goes back to normal! It's short game for me this off season.

Congrats, personally mine is to break 80 this coming season. Been close twice this season and shot 80, but they were stand out rounds and can't currently see where the extra shot would come from. But hopefully that solid practise and a few lessons over the winter may get me there. With a par73 course as my home course 80 would be a real milestone for me.

Its that mental block you get over! I remember when I first broke 90! Shot an 86! but the week prior to that it was 90,91,92s with double bogey finishes etc!!
Its the same when you break 80! I had 80,81 etc with bad finishes! But once that mental block is broken its easy!!
Keep going!

Thanks I know what you mean as soon as I broke it! It's felt easy like I have a bad hole but still break as I have couple of tweetys and pars then some bougeys! I had a twenty foot birdie put on the 18th in my last round to score 89 and I thought this is going in and to my shock it just went straight in!! It's great can't wait to be low 80s knocking on breaking 80😊
