i have now put in 2 cards towards my handicap and playing my 3rd and final tomorrow. So far i have shot a shocking 104 (bad round) and a 85 (more like it) round. Im hoping to shoot under 90 tomorrow.

I have my name down for the club championship which is being played on saturday, i have been put with a 28 and 23 handicapper which im pleased about!!

Good luck for tomorrow mate but why would you be happy playing with guys of 23 and 28 you wont learn anything from them surely playing with guys with lower handicaps would be of more benefit to your game?.

It is interesting you can play right away in a big comp, our club requires a minimum of 6 qualifier rounds in the preceeding 6 months.

Every club is different I guess and there is no "right" way.

Good luck in your round and do not be dissapointed with any handicap you get, if its too low its a good target to work towards as your are statistically capable of it, if its too high then you can have fun hacking it down over the next few months until it stabilises.

i just think i would feel more pressure playing with guys at a low handicap on my first comp!!

I have been told this before about being able to play in club champ straight away.. My name is down on the starting sheet so im guessing its ok

Enjoy. I don't have a problem with playing with guys of any handicap. Providing they play at a reasonable speed, play within the rules and etiquette and we have a bit of a chat then I'm happy. I can get intimidated playing with better players especially when I know my game isn't really on form

You might find that your round will count for handicap but you won't be eligible to win anything.

Your handicap will be based on your lowest round so if you had nothing worse than double and par is 72 you should get 13 based on your 85.

Have you held a handicap before? 85 is a pretty decent score to post for your first handicap.
