Films

My Mrs and her pal went to see the latest and last Bridgette Jones film..and loved it - so much that she wants to take me - but feel I have to watch first three - on my tod as she’s seen them all. Anyway this sees me about 25mins into the first and yes - it is amusing. And yes - way way back when the independent newspaper was launched I was a reader and enjoyed the original Helen Fielding BJD weekly piece she wrote for it.

Just read the Wikipedia page on them all , it's like clip notes and then just watch and enjoy it

I watched
Edge of Darkness (Prime but may be on others)

Loosely based on the BBC series of the same name with the same basic plot.
Good adaption with the switch from England to the USA and a switch of nationalities for key players. However Jedburgh's character ( Ray Winstone) does not play such a big role until a crucial moment. Great ending.

I watched Star Trek Section 31

Originally planned as new series but now just as a stand alone film.
Good enough for avid trekkies like myself, shame it will not be a series because it felt vey much like a first episode.

Went with Mrs to see Conclave this evening. Excellent and interesting…very atmospheric in its quiet intensity and almost claustrophobic. Ralph Fiennes superb.

I watched Greenland last night (Prime) good

Family trying to get refuge from a major world disaster

Some shocking, some heart breaking moments.

We watched Borderlands last night. Was a big fan of BL3 the game, knew the film had poor reviews but decided to chuck it on anyway. I think they'd gone to a lot effort to make it just like the game, with multiple gunfights and whatnot, lots of little Easter eggs for fans of the game, but the storyline was pretty empty really. Not much going on there. It was ok though, filled an evening.

Fair play to you for sticking with it. I lasted precisely 23 minutes 😄. Not sure why they went with Cate Blanchet as the lead. Excellent actress but that really wasn't her thing. I'm sure she got a whopper of a paycheck so she won't care

Mickey 17 at the Cinema, very good. Pattinson is an excellent actor. And Mark Ruffalo plays a great “Trumpian” leader. It was a very entertaining movie, albeit a tad long at 2hr and 17 minutes.

Watched Threads on iPlayer. And I can’t unwatch it.

Made in 1984 based in Sheffield (script by Barry Hines…of Kes and other gritty northern novels). A no-holds docu-film about the build up to and subsequently the impact of a US/Russia nuclear war (with UK in the firing line) on the people of the city. It was banned/dropped by the BBC (even though BBC partly funded it) after one showing as it was just too realistic, gruesome and dark, with no happy endings or uplifting moments - just horrendously bleak and hope-less. As things almost certainly would be.
Just watched this today. If you haven't seen this yet, I would recommend it. As you say, no holds barred, tell it how it is. Not nice viewing but something I think is on peoples "must watch" list. Definitely not a feel-good film.

My views on it as well, empty escapism not meant to tax the mind.
