........ And not over equipment  , but simply to play.

I had a re-occurance of my wrist injury at the start of this month. To be honest it never really recovered from the previous time I injured it in August.

For the first time in a long while I'm pain free. I haven't played in getting on for 2 weeks and have been out of my splint for 3 days now. The doctor advised that the damage is not to my wrist, but to my hand (Fleshy pad area at the base of the hand below little finger) and is having a knock on effect in the surrounding areas. Apparently there is a ligament and muscle attached here and he seems to think I've torn one or both of them, hence the pain 3 months on. I'm now booked to see a specialist on 10/1/13.

I want to play, but I'm fighting the temptation not to.

If I leave it until after my consultation in January (10th), it'll be getting on for a month and a half since I last played, but I want to make sure I'm healed this time and limit any chance of reoccurance.

I keep telling myself it's for the best and that taking the time out to heal now it better than taking time out mid-season and possibly making the injury worse in the long run.

The last time I tried to ease myself back the game by working on my short game, just chipping and short pitches. I had no reaction to this the previous time but the injury, obviously, hadn't healed and I'm now back to square one :(

So, it begs the question. Why, when I know I the best thing to do is rest and let it heal, do I want to play

I really am an idiot :D

If its any help youre not alone, at least you havent played yet! Came back too early from my calf strain early in the year, against the specialists advice, and ended up rupturing it and missing the majority of the summers golf, all because I was too impatient to wait a week or two!

Comfort yourself that currently the courses are either frozen or flooded (with very little in between it seems) :)

Its not idiotic to want to play. It would be pretty idiotic to give in to that temptation though. At least the weather is bad. Imagine how you'd feel if it was glorious outside.

Exactly!!!

If you play and do serious damage then it could impact you next year when* the weather is glorious...

Surely you could just do a bit of work on your putting.

Gareth, ask yourself this question. Do you want to miss golf in the winter or the spring? If your answer is winter then you know what to do
