went for 18 holes the day and joined up with a boy on the first tee, introduced myself and on we go. hit a cracking tee shot and i thought this cud be a good day. the other boy melts it way over the ridge 50 60 yards by mine. so after a few holes of me hit n miss this boy is attacking the pins like a pro, infact turns out he used to be a pro!!!
cracking swing and to be honest i had already thought he was a scratch or better golfer.
i eventually hit more good shots but i did get some info fae him about how to play the course. idid feel under pressure at the begining but it turned out a very nice day and another lesson learned around bogside

Sounds great. I love playing with good players. Nerve wracking but so much to learn from watching them.
same here but he was better than anyone on that course that ive played with. he always checked how far to the back of the green and would take a club that wouldnt put him through it. sounds simple but i learned a wee bit the day:cool:

I know what you mean mate. I had a knock round with a couple of young ads at my place that play play of 2 and +3. Felt really good was hitting the big stick as good as they were and thought I must be there or there abouts the same as they are after 9, but not sure as we were just having a knock on a sunny afternoon. We was having a look at our cards at the half way house. The lad off +3 asked how I was getting on and I was really chuffed to be 2 over. I asked him and he was 4 under. Just shows how good these lads are as I was happy with my front 9 and was always up with him from the tee and hitting my irons as good, difference was he got up and down and made putts, that was where he made up 6 more shots. But I really enjoyed it as it is a pleasure to play with someone playing like that, he ended up 6 under at the end.

I played with a lad a couple of years back who walked off the 10th green saying

"that's a birdie net par for me!"

That made me chuckle even though I still didn't get the honour at the 11th!

Very interesting about the back-of the green trick, theres a few at ours you definitely dont want to fly but for the rest this might not be a bad plan... Nice one!

Does a + handicap actually work like that? Often wondered if it does or does everyone just play off scratch?

It does indeed for matchplay. If its medal/stroke play and they shoot 66 scratch off of +3 then they shoot a net 69!

Played with a boy who was +4 and never got past q school...frightening how many more levels there is

I know a local lad really well, +3 Golfer, turned Pro, tried Europro tour, 2011, made £491.79...........!!!
Only made 2 Cuts from 10 events
Now working in retail selling jumpers, trying to scratch a wage and play a few minor events

The following year, another local, at my (Away) club, turned Pro, was +3 golfer too, made £1,477.50
Made 4 Cuts from 11 events

There really is a MASSIVE gulf from good Club golfer, County Golfer, to playing with the Big Fish in the Pro ranks, but u gotta follow that dream.................
