Favorite & least favorite formats

Well it looks like we have enough of a quorum to banish foursomes as a format and I'd add my signature

Favorite for me depends on the size/scale/importance of the particular competition:

Enjoy stableford for those week in/week out comps
Medal for the more prestige events (surprising how often lots of the 'better golfers' struggle with medal after a run of stableford events)
Scrambles (& to an extent 4BBB) are lots of fun for team events
1v1 I don't do matchplay (just cart v cart stuff & its usually just a side-bet to the organised comp and doesn't grab my attention)

I once played a foursomes competition with each pair sharing a buggy..

No banter, laughing, joking, taking the piss out of each other. It didn't help that the other pair thought they were in something as important as a Ryder Cup match.. and yes we lost.

Never again, the least enjoyable game I've ever played, utterly pointless.

Of the formats I play, my favorites are ordered as follows:

1. Medal
2. Scratch matchplay
3. Scratch foursomes
4. Stableford

Haven't played greensomes, scrambles etc. for years and although I don't really miss them they hold fond memories and I'd consider them if the right event/partner option came up.

Like: Scratch BB Match Play also really enjoy Texas Scrambles. me & regular PP played with a couple of older gentleman in one a couple of months ago. Was a great laugh and they enjoyed being 100 yards further up the fairway :D

Dislike: Foursomes, same reason as most people. Spend usually a longer amount of time playing half the amount of golf.

We'll I hate the Bogey comp even more now, just got home to a notification that I went up 0.1 after Saturdays comp, so I've just rang the pro to ask how I can go up in a matchplay comp, he says you still put your gross score down as its a qualifier, what a load of tosh!

As soon as a putt was missed for a half we just picked up, I stated that the 2 formats couldn't be more different as to how you play any particular hole, to have a Bogey comp as a qualifier is a nonsense IMO 😡

Kinda misses the point - whilst at the same time being almost precisely the point - of foursomes...but can understand why some don't take to it. As much as it is my favourite format - I wouldn't like it to be my only or regular one.

Handicap calculations are done differently for bogey comps. Not 100% sure but I think however many up or down you are is your score relative to par.
