Neil/Anyone,

Just to answer the questions you originally posted:

Do you have regular coaching at the moment? Not at the moment, had a block of 6 lessons about 12 months ago
What do you consider to be the strengths of your game? At the moment my short game & putting
Weaknesses? long game
How often do you play/practise? At present playing 1-2 times a week, range 1-2 times a month
What is your scoring average/handicap? unofficial handicap of 18 following gross 14 over & gross 16 over rounds last week
Do you keep stats? yes - I use golfers diary
What is your strike/shot/shape pattern for the following clubs
Driver/Tee shots
75% of the time a fade, had a slice but it has semi cured. 15% of the time straight as a nail with a very low flight.
Fairway woods slight fade however often straight as a dye
Rescue Clubs straight - high flight
Long/medium irons occasional fade, occasional straight and again a high flight
Short irons generally straight and a very high flight

Driver - view from down the line

I thought there was lots to admire.

Unofficial 18, after scoring 14 and 16 last games, remind me not to play against you!

Looks to me as if you stand a touch open, but it could be the camera angle. If your path is a bit out-in when it goes badly, why not practice a load of 3-ball drill.

Nice to see such well shot video......

Ask vig....i'm not that good, I shot 106 playing with him on Friday!! lol

Thanks for the comments though, whats this 3 ball drill you mention?

You only shot that many because you were leaning 45* to counteract the wind.
Scoring was hard in those conditions so don't beat yourself up about it.

You're swing has changed slightly from the ones you have on there from your younger days :D

BTW is that Garforth range?

Cheers Robert :D

Vig - that is Garforth range fella.

The biggest thing I can see wrong with my sons swing is he is cocking his wrists too early on his back swing and is jumping up out of his stance a bit too early on/just after contact. Am I right in thinking this?

That's a cracking swing for someone so new to the game, mate. Who did you have lessons with? Was it Danny or Phil up Garforth?

I'll have to keep an eye out for you as it's the range I use too.

Ta very much, but i've been playing for about 3 years or so now! Still only had 6 lessons though but that was when I lived in Teesside and was at Yarm driving range.

I keep meaning to book in with Phil (Phil was recommended to me) but i think i'd rather spend the money on lessons for my son instead.

Looks like a pretty solid action to me.
Interesting to note your lower ball flight and the position that your body is in at and after impact

Looks to me that you are ahead of the ball as you hit it. From the top of the swing the left side should rotate out of the way, not, move to the left. You will see from down the line that you are quite square on with the hips at impact when you hips should be turning out of the way, you will then have a lot more room to swing the club down the line. You may also see a higher ball flight, which may give you a few more otions around the course.

Hit three balls
Ball one, get ahead of the ball as you hit it, what is the flight of the ball?
Ball two, at impact have more weight on your right side at impact, has the ball gone higher?
Ball three, feel a position somewhere between the two above, that should be the perfect position at impact

Look forward to hearing how you get on

Thanks for that Neil, to be fair rotating the hips is something I was picked up on not too long ago but I have trouble remembering to do everything! lol

I know when I last tried to rotate more I ended up hitting a lot of bad shots and reverted back to type as that was what was comfiest and giving me the best results.

I'll get another trip up to the range sometime next week and persevere with it and see if I can get some better results and also some new videos.

Much appreciate your time & comments!

Hi Keef.

I think your 7 iron down the line looked stunning...very nice swing :)

Your driver down the line looked like the club goes back on a very inside line and flat.. this will cause you to come over the top on the way down and hit fades, slices and pulls. I'd probably try getting the clubhead up quicker, towards the yellow circle (feel like your hands are going up past your chest and not around the back of your right hip)

In your 7-iron face on I thought there was too much wrist angle from your left arm. This can lead to your clubhead trying to overtake the hands and a lack of proper weight shift. Try hitting with your hands closer to your left thigh (don't move the ball) and hit DOWN onto the ball. Concentrate on the grip of the club coming through the hitting zone before the clubface - If you keep your HANDS ahead of the ball then you won't need to try and get so ahead of the ball with your BODY as Neil suggests. It will also position your shoulders a little better (right lower than left)

hope this helps.

Hi Neil,

Just thought i'd let you know how i'm getting on.

I tried your 3 ball drill and did find that it feels like I am ahead of myself when striking the ball when compared to the other 2 balls I hit....well the other 10 lol

Anyway, I played today and made a conscious effort to rotate my hips more and also to not let my hands get ahead of myself, it resulted in a few slices (not too many though) but also 4 or 5 that were straight as an arrow and had a much higher ball flight.

I also realised that I had begun to take my eyes off the ball a fraction before striking it which was also affecting me, again I have now corrected this.

Thanks for your help, i'll post some more videos in a few weeks for you to check over if thats ok with you?

Good stuff
Nice to hear feedback, thanks

Keep up with the 3 ball drill (maybe even video yourself doing it to compare the feel and the look)
Would be really interested to see that

All the best
