Famous People

I played with James Woods (the actor akay Shark), James Garner (the actor) and Mac Davies (the singer/song writer) in the US some time ago.

Great fun, very funny guys who took the golf seriously but were not full of themselves.

My brother , as a nipper , caddied for a famous jazz star in the early 80's at a charity event.....but i can't remember if it was Kenny Ball or Acker Bilk ?

Thinking he might get a good tip , all he managed was the ball that Ball/Bilk had been playing with....tight sod !!!

Mind you , he then sold it to an old girl , obviously a fan , for a fiver , which was a nice sum for a kid back then !!!

Ok , just texted my brother and it was Kenny Ball

Did he have two rows of 5 blokes stopping the ball going in the hole?

Far too defensive! Shame because i think he would have been an exceptional manager if he changed his mentality slightly.

None of us had the courage to speak to him although I'm sure I saw a Man U driver headcover! (joke!). Seen him hit a few shots on the course - looked a tidy player - mind you, most footballers/managers apparantly are!

OK ex members of my Wimbledon Common I've played with

Dan Maskell (ex BBC tennis commentator)
James Bolam

Green fees at Wimbledon Common I've played with
Hywel Bennet (actor who played Shelly in 80's sitcom)
James Hunt

Others I've played with in Pro-ams
Godfrey Evans (ex England wicketkeeper)
Peter Allis

Caddied for
Bernard Cribbins
Ronnie Corbett

I’ve played with a few top ex top football players in the odd cal am’s and pro ams, but that was many moons ago.

I’ve also played with Bill McLaren, the former and great rugby commentator. He was a really nice guy, quite funny and a not bad player to boot.

I also played at Hendon GC in a film industry thingmaybob, yes I know some film people. The place was full of TV and film big wigs and I was fair crapin myself. Thankfully I was playing with a couple of behind the scene guys who couldn’t hit a ball to save themselves.

I once had a round with Shaun Edwards (Wigan rugby league) after i caught him up on a local course. All i can say is it's a good job he was a decent rugby player as we played 12 holes of army golf. :D
